About the Role

The Vice President, Design and Technical Services is responsible to assist the EVP Global Design and Technical Services in  the overall direction of project planning and design with regards to representing Kerzner’s interests throughout the design phases of developments. He will oversee all other areas of the Design and Technical Services department. The primary responsibility of the position holder is to ensure all aspects of the project planning and design is delivered in accordance with the Operator’s Design & Brand Standards always taking cognizance of the Contract agreement between Kerzner and the Client across all properties proposed and existing. The Vice President, Design and Technical Services will be a point of responsibility for enforcing design and Brands standards of the development from the pre-design stage through to completion of tender documentation. To act as the focal point for both Kerzner departments and Owners/Developers during the design stages of the development to ensure operational requirements are met and incorporated into the scheme and to liaise with all applicable Kerzner departments (Brand, Operations, IT, F&B, Aquaventure, Dolphin Bay and the like) to obtain operational guidelines for the Design Team. To supervise the department in the absence of the EVP Global Design & Technical Services. The role will be based in Dubai and will also require travel.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide project leadership on behalf of Kerzner and act as main liaison and focus point between the in-house specialists, the Client and their design teams, to ensure the free flow of information and design input from Kerzner, throughout the design development phases.
• Responsible for the developing design briefs and Area Programs.
• Responsible for developing and updating the Brand and required standards for the developments.
• Enforcing that the Brand and required standards are maintained throughout the entire development process.
• Overall management of project planning and design from conception through to completion.
• Assist with the selection of design consultants.
• Develop resort design strategy (including sub-segment mix) to suit business and operational requirements.
• Lead project teams to develop design concepts for projects.
• Oversee concept design required by Operations.
• Recommend decision on critical design tradeoffs with the operations team for projects.
• Clarify scope of work and prepare return brief for review. 
• Review cost control for all disciplines.
• Decide on detailed designs developed by architects, ensure alignment with concept design and business requirement in cognizance of agreement with clients.
• Ensure variations arising from differences in project design are mitigated and raise issues to EVP Global Design & Technical Services and bring to a suitable conclusion.
• Ensure provision of constant progress updates and monthly written reports on design progress, major issues or conflicts and anticipated roadblocks whenever appropriate.
• Undertake full and comprehensive review of architectural, engineering and fit-out documents and proposals at all stages of the design process. Preparing associated reports and correspondence.
• Provide outline designs where required for the capital expenditure projects that are undertaken on the resorts.
• Provide Area Programs for all proposed properties and update throughout the development process through to handover to operations.
• Provide preliminary design direction for in house CAPEX projects which do not require outside consultancy advice.

Consultant Management

• Assists in the preparation of Terms of Reference documents for appointment of Consultants.
• Shortlists Consultants prior to approval and issues of the design tender. 
• Liaises with Consultants to monitor the design development and ensures that the development brief is complied with the budgets and managed. 
• Reviews tender documents submitted by the consultant and ensures that the drawings are in line with the approved brief.
• Assist with the processing of payments to Consultants.

Coordination 

• Oversee the submission of Master Plan and Sub-department Plan.
• Oversee and ensures submission of Transportation and other Impact Studies. 
• Liaises with Facilities Management Department and ensures their requirements with respect to the management and maintenance of the finished project are incorporated. 
• Liaises with the Sales and Marketing Department in the preparation of marketing drawings where applicable.
• Liaises with the construction department to ensure that the design development ties into ongoing project development. 
• Liaises with the construction department to ensure that construction works on site match marketing drawings (where applicable) and are within approved budgets. 

Specific Related Tasks

• Project Setup.
• Finalize the client brief for approval and sign off.
• Review and summarize all statutory requirements in regards to local and authority submissions.
• Prepare a list of documents to form the design documentation and working drawings package.
• Assist in preparing the client service or turnkey contract in coordination with the Project Director.
• Collect briefing requirements and details of the project brief from the client.

Design and Documentation

• Prepare sketch designs including perspectives material selections etc.
• Revise the design based on input from the client.
• Prepare drawing documentation after signing final design development by client.
• Present the design concept to the client with EVP Global Design & Technical Services.
• Visit the site to take site measurements, digital photographs and investigate the area.
• Co-ordinate with the M&E consultant or other project consultants.
• Forward sketch designs, details and materials of interior design and furniture for input by the CAD team and 3D (if necessary).

IT

• Coordinate with the IT team to update the design database which includes 3D presentation images, AutoCAD Library, photographs, products and project.

Quality

• To ensure that the Quality Management System is implemented and maintained and to evaluate where continual improvement can be made.
