The Underground Station Inspector ensures the safety, operational efficiency, and cleanliness of underground stations. This role involves routine inspections, monitoring compliance with safety regulations, addressing operational issues, and providing support to station staff and passengers. The position entails a 60-hour workweek.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Inspections
- Conduct regular safety checks of station infrastructure, including platforms, escalators, elevators, and emergency equipment.
- Ensure compliance with local and federal safety regulations and operational standards.
- Report and escalate safety hazards or maintenance issues to relevant teams.
Operational Oversight
- Monitor station operations to ensure smooth functioning and adherence to schedules.
- Oversee crowd control measures, especially during peak hours or emergencies.
- Coordinate with control rooms to address operational disruptions or delays.
Passenger Assistance
- Assist passengers with inquiries, directions, and accessibility needs.
- Address and resolve passenger complaints or escalate them when necessary.
Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and operational activities.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and operational regulations.
- Support audits and inspections conducted by regulatory authorities.
Emergency Response
- Act as a point of contact during emergencies, ensuring that protocols are followed.
- Coordinate evacuation procedures when necessary and provide first-line support during incidents.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with station staff, maintenance teams, and external contractors to address operational needs.
- Provide regular updates and reports to supervisors and management.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Background
- High school diploma or equivalent (essential).
- Certification or training in safety management, transportation, or a related field (preferred).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in public transportation, safety inspection, or a similar role.
- Familiarity with underground station operations and safety protocols.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential hazards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using inspection tools, reporting software, and basic computer applications.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to emergencies.
Other Requirements
- Physically fit to conduct inspections and handle emergencies.
- Willingness to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Knowledge of local transportation regulations and guidelines.
Work Environment
- Primarily based in underground station facilities with exposure to noise, dust, and variable temperatures.
- Involves standing, walking, and climbing stairs for extended periods.
