Job Description
Job Purpose:
To carry out professional duties of a middle leader focusing upon raising standards of learning and teaching across the school by driving standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• To assist the Principal and Leadership Team in the leadership and management of the school and in directed aspects of school improvement.
• To maintain and continually improve on the provision of an outstanding educational experience within Metropole School.
• To carry out teaching duties, as required, in accordance with the National Curriculum to drive teaching and learning through the school.
• Collaborate with school leadership to identify the areas of strength and areas of development in the school.
• Provide teachers with individualised and classroom-centered training, exhibiting research based instructional strategies and methodologies. Provide follow-up as needed.
• Provide professional development in the form of Team Teaching, Lesson modelling and provided Professional Development sessions.
• Provide feedback on key documents, including: SEF, Lesson Plans, Schemes of work and resourcing.
Specific Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning • To monitor and improve the quality of learning and teaching across the school.
• To review planning and teaching methods in order to meet individual needs, including SEN,
Gifted and Talented, and children with English who are ELL.
• To exemplify good practice in the classroom and provide demonstration lessons for staff/Parents/external parties as appropriate.
• Coaching for individual teachers where required.
• To oversee the monitoring and observation cycle.
• To audit, organise, order and allocate resources across the school pertinent to the Department’s Action Plan
• To liaise with other middle leaders to ensure progression and continuity across the school
• To ensure all curriculum policies, schemes of work and general school policies are adhered to by team
• To support staff in relation to curriculum planning and assessment
• To monitor and support the work of team members through classroom visits, work scrutiny/moderation, interviews, professional dialogue and reviews of plans and records.
• To attend courses as required and disseminate information to other members of staff.
• To assist the Leadership Team with the co-ordination of staff development opportunities for all teaching and non-teaching staff within the school.
• To act as a coach or mentor when required to newly appointed staff and ensure that other staff new to the school, including supply staff, are familiar with school policies
• To ensure effective communication within your team from your department to other areas of the school.
Monitoring and Evaluation
• To develop and promote the use of assessment and school-based indicators to analyse, evaluate and improve learning and teaching
Discipline and Behaviour Management
• Ensure that high expectations for good behaviour are clearly established with appropriate guidance
Financial Management
• Take responsibility for spending in specific areas as agreed with the Principal School Community Links
• Liaise and develop good relationships with parents and other members of the wider school community
• Encourage and promote home/school partnership
• To lead information sessions for parents as required
• To lead on events and trips related to innovation and technology
• To contribute to Parents’ Evenings
• Ensure effective communication with parents
• Prepare a subject group calendar of events on a termly basis

• Work collaboratively with Head of Department to ensure student needs and are attended to
• Knowledge and understanding of what constitutes high quality educational provision and how to secure it within the Prep and Senior Schools
• A strong understanding of the UK National Curriculum and remain up to date on current changes and research in pedagogy.
• Commitment to the welfare and achievement of the students in our care
GEMS Education
• To carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Headteacher/Principal.
• Duties may be varied to meet changed circumstances in a manner compatible with the post held, at the reasonable direction of the Headteacher/Principal
