Job Description & Summary


The Tax Technical Director serves as a subject matter expert, responsible for curating, validating, and updating tax-related content for their Business Unit (BU) or Market. This includes regulatory updates, best practices, and internal methodologies to ensure information is current and comprehensive.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Content Expertise


  • Curate, validate, and update tax-related content for the BU or Market.
  • Ensure all regulatory updates, best practices, and internal methodologies are current and comprehensive.

2. Research and Analysis


  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on current tax laws, regulations, rulings, trends, and developments.
  • Provide insightful perspectives on complex tax issues at the BU, local, and global levels.

3. Content Creation


  • Develop high-quality, engaging, and informative content for internal and external stakeholders.

4. Position Papers


  • Draft well-supported position papers based on conducted research.
  • Guide decision-making processes, support tax filing positions, and provide advice on tax planning strategies.

5. Thought Leadership


  • Author articles, whitepapers, reports, blogs, and social media posts.
  • Simplify complex tax concepts for non-specialists, enhancing readers' understanding.

6. Knowledge Sharing and Accessibility


  • Facilitate tax knowledge sharing across TLS by making it easily accessible through internal knowledge management systems.
  • Organize content in a user-friendly manner and employ search optimization techniques with the help of the KM team and Manager/ Senior Manager.

7. Compliance and Quality Assurance


  • Evaluate PwC's tax positions to ensure compliance with current laws.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks and ensure adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Regularly review materials to maintain accuracy and relevance, reducing the risk of non-compliance.

8. Internal Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration


  • Collaborate with departments such as legal, finance, and IT to integrate tax knowledge across TLS.
  • Work with technology teams to implement effective knowledge management systems.

9. External Stakeholder Engagement


  • Engage with regulatory bodies, tax professionals, industry experts, and clients to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Use excellent communication skills to convey complex tax concepts and persuade others of their interpretations.

10. Strategic Planning


  • Identify key topics and areas of interest that align with PwC’s expertise and market needs.
  • Collaborate with tax experts and leadership to plan and develop thought leadership campaigns.

11. Brand Enhancement


  • Enhance PwC's brand and reputation in the tax domain by producing authoritative and insightful content.
  • Attract potential clients, retain existing ones, and contribute to the firm's overall growth through thought leadership.

12. Training and Development


  • Commit to continuous learning by attending workshops, seminars, and educational opportunities to stay updated on the latest tax trends and best practices.
  • Play a pivotal role in training and developing tax team members by creating educational materials, conducting workshops, and providing guidance on tax-related matters.

Content Expert: The tax director/ partner serves as a subject matter expert, responsible for curating, validating, and updating tax-related content for their BU or Market. This includes regulatory updates, best practices, and internal methodologies to ensure the information is current and comprehensive.


Research and Analysis: They conduct in-depth research and analysis on current tax laws, regulations, rulings, trends, and developments. This includes understanding complex tax issues, both at a BU, local and global level, to provide insightful perspectives that are relevant to the firm's clients and the wider market.


Content Creation: They are responsible for creating high-quality, engaging, and informative content.


Position papers: Utilizing the research conducted, they draft position papers that present clear, well-supported arguments or interpretations of specific tax issues. These documents are essential for guiding decision-making processes, supporting tax filing positions, or providing advice on tax planning strategies.


Thought leadership: Articles, whitepapers and reports in addition to blogs and social media posts. The goal is to articulate complex tax concepts in a manner that is accessible to non-specialists, adding value to the readers' understanding of tax issues.


Knowledge Sharing and Accessibility: They facilitate the sharing of tax knowledge across TLS by making it easily accessible through internal knowledge management systems.


With the help of the KM team and Manager/ Senior Manager, this involves organizing content in a user-friendly manner and employing search optimization techniques to ensure that relevant information can be easily found by TLS practitioners.


Compliance and Quality Assurance: They evaluate the tax positions taken by PwC to ensure they are compliant with current laws and assess the potential risks associated with these positions. This involves developing strategies to mitigate any identified risks and ensuring that the organization's tax practices adhere to relevant regulations.


They regularly review materials to maintain accuracy and relevance, mitigating the risk of non-compliance and associated penalties.


Internal Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: They work closely with other departments, such as legal, finance, and IT, to ensure that tax knowledge is integrated across TLS. Collaborating with technology teams is crucial for implementing knowledge management systems that support the tax team's needs.


External Stakeholder Engagement: They engage with various stakeholders, such as regulatory bodies and including tax professionals, industry experts, and clients, is a critical part of the role. This engagement helps to ensure that the content is not only accurate and informative but also resonates with the intended audience and stimulates dialogue.


This requires excellent communication skills to effectively convey complex tax concepts and persuade others of the validity of their interpretations.


Strategic Planning: They play a strategic role in identifying key topics and areas of interest that align with PwC’s expertise and market needs. This involves collaborating with tax experts and leadership within the firm to plan and develop thought leadership campaigns that position PwC as a leader in the field of tax.
