About the job SUBSEA CABLE ENGINEER
The Subsea Cable Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and executing the technical aspects of subsea power and communication cable projects across various stages, from FEED and bid phases to detailed engineering. This role requires in-depth knowledge of subsea cable and umbilical systems, as well as the ability to coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams. The engineer will be tasked with preparing equipment specifications, managing technical interfaces, evaluating supplier proposals, and ensuring successful project delivery.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and prepare equipment specifications, datasheets, schematics, and material requisitions for subsea cables and umbilicals.
- Evaluate and assess suppliers' technical proposals, ensuring alignment with project requirements, and prepare technical bid evaluations.
- Coordinate engineering follow-up post-contract award, monitoring product design, manufacturing, testing, and offshore installation processes.
- Act as the primary technical contact for all communications with suppliers, managing document reviews, action tracking, and closure of Technical Queries (TQs), Variations Orders Requests (VORs), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Serve as the external interface with clients and vendors, as well as the internal interface across engineering departments, including pipeline, materials, subsea and offshore structures, electrical, telecom, piping, flow assurance, installation, supply chain, quality/HSE, and project management teams.
- Prepare estimates for cost, time, and resources, contributing to project planning and budgeting.
- Lead subsea cable and umbilical packages on multiple projects, including resource management responsibilities, as needed.
- Train and mentor junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in subsea power and communication cables and umbilicals.
- Comprehensive understanding of the design, manufacturing, and testing phases for subsea cables and umbilicals within EPCI project environments (including FEED, bid, and detailed engineering phases).
- Proficiency with industry codes, standards, regulations, and best practices for subsea cable and umbilical systems.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
- Proven experience with EPCI project execution for Middle Eastern clients, particularly for companies like Saudi Aramco, Qatar Petroleum (QP), Qatar Gas (QG), or ADNOC.
- Familiarity with subsea flexible pipes and subsea valve systems.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information.
- Proactive, inquisitive mindset with a keen interest in staying updated on new technologies and developments in subsea cable engineering.
- Willingness and capability to mentor junior team members and share technical expertise.
