News and information are available at www.atkinsrealis.com or follow us on LinkedIn.Job OverviewThe Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing all mechanical engineering activities related to chillers and HVAC systems for the rail project during the construction phase. This role involves validating the design provided by the contractor, ensuring compliance with mechanical standards, and providing support during the construction supervision phase. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with various departments to ensure the successful execution of the project, particularly focusing on the integration and optimization of chillers/HVAC systems within the rail infrastructure development.Roles and Responsibilities:Validate the mechanical design provided by the design and build contractorfor chillers and HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of chiller and HVAC systems, including cooling towers, air handling units, and related mechanical systems, ensuring they meet quality standards and project specifications.Quality Control, ensure that all mechanical systems comply with relevant standards and quality benchmarks throughout the installation and commissioning phases.Direct the development and review and approval of machinal systems specifically technical drawings audit and evaluation of shop drawings and of material submittals.Conduct site assessments and surveys to gather data on existing mechanical conditions and identify opportunities for improvement in chiller and HVAC systemsand provide technical guidance to clients and other project sub-consultants.Identify and mitigate mechanical risks related to chillers and HVAC systems, providing advice on potential opportunities and threats.Provide regular progress reports to the client and internal stakeholders, highlighting any mechanical risks and opportunities related to chillers and HVAC systems.Ensure the provision of all necessary mechanical data related to chillers and HVAC systems to the Contract Administration Senior Manager.Provide technical support during the construction supervision phase, addressing any mechanical issues related to chillers and HVAC systems that arise.Prepare and deliver mechanical presentations focused on chillers and HVAC systems as required.Drive progression via coordination meetings, ensuring all mechanical obligations related to chillers and HVAC systems are met.Ensure that HVAC designs and installations comply with relevant industry standards, including local building codes, health and safety regulations, and environmental laws.Monitor and evaluate the performance of chiller and HVAC works during construction, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.Liaise with external consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with mechanical requirements related to chillers and HVAC systems.Conduct site visits and inspections to assess mechanical conditions and verify the implementation of recommendations related to chillers and HVAC systems.Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and project team members on mechanical matters related to chillers and HVAC systems.Qualifications and Educational Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.Professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent are highly desirable.Knowledge and Experience:Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineeringdesign and build, with a specific focus on chillers and HVAC systems, preferably in large-scale infrastructure or transportation projects.2-5 years of experience as a Design Engineer, specifically in the design, installation, and commissioning of mechanical systems related to HVAC.In-depth knowledge of mechanical principles, construction contracts, and industry standards related to chillers and HVAC systems.Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and their integration with HVAC systems.Experience in fire alarm and firefighting systems and its integration with HVAC.Knowledge of AutoCAD/BIM will be essential.Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple mechanical aspects and stakeholders effectively.Experience working on Rail projects/sector is highly desirable.Preferred Skills:Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate mechanical risks specific to chillers and HVAC systems in large-scale infrastructure projects.Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including air handling units, refrigeration, heating and cooling systems, and ductwork.Detailed understanding of all building systems including architectural, structural, civil, electrical and fire and how they impact and are impacted by the mechanical systems. Strong knowledge of current codes and standards such as the applicable plumbing and building codes.Relevant HVAC certifications (e.g., LEED, Certified Energy Manager, or other specialized HVAC certifications) are a plus.Proven leadership skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-pressure environment.Experience in managing complex projects, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex mechanical information related to chillers and HVAC systems clearly and concisely to stakeholders at all levels.Proficiency in mechanical engineering software and tools, as well as a strong understanding of engineering and construction processes related to chillers and HVAC systems.Why choose AtkinsRéalis.Your difference makes a difference.
