Position Description:
Assesses and treats patients with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders.
Position Responsibility:
- Administers hearing or speech/language evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on the type and degree of impairments, using written and oral tests and special instruments.
- Develops clear care plans based on best practice, patient findings and patient needs.
- Advises on aids and adaptations needed by the patient to promote independence.
- Evaluates hearing and speech/language test results and medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment for speech, language, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders.
- Assesses, develops and implements Speech and Language Therapy treatment to the assigned patients.
- Participates in departmental and hospital quality improvement measurement, activities and goals.
- Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of practice guidelines and policies related to the care of patients requiring rehabilitation services.
- Complies with standards, policies, laws and regulations as outlined in the hospital policies and plans.
- Evaluates information to determine compliance with standards and analyses data or information to improve or make decisions.
- Assists with the development of a speech/language therapy competency program and ongoing learning and education programs.
- Performs administrative activities, such as day-to-day maintenance of files and processing of paperwork.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in national and international professional societies.
- Reflects on auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of the client's communication and identifies appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness.
- Provides advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/clients with communication difficulties.
- Ensures that patients are involved in the planning and prioritization of their care plans wherever possible.
- Adapts practice to meet individual patient's circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic differences.
- Uses of evidence-based practice and outcome measures for clinical effectiveness.
- Participates in departmental and hospital quality improvement measurement, activities and goals.
Requirements :
- Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Speech and Language Therapy/Speech Pathology/Speech therapy/Speech or
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Current/Valid Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Speech and Phonetics field in hospital or clinical settings.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effects.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English and Arabic language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
- Knowledge of human behaviour and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation.
- Skills in sound clinical judgments/decision-making for case management.
- Ability to reflect on practice with peers and managers and identify their own strengths and development needs.
- Private hospital experience preferred.
