Job Description

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of pediatric ophthalmic conditions, including routine eye exams, diagnostic testing, and interpretation of results.
  • Perform advanced pediatric eye surgeries, including strabismus surgery, cataract surgery, and surgical management of other congenital and acquired eye disorders.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for children with refractive errors, amblyopia, and other vision-related developmental conditions.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up care for children undergoing surgery or treatment for various eye conditions.
  • Work closely with pediatricians, optometrists, and other medical specialists to manage complex pediatric cases requiring a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Educate and counsel patients and families on eye health, treatment options, and post-operative care instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with medical regulations and hospital protocols.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in pediatric ophthalmology and apply evidence-based practices in patient care.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior ophthalmologists, medical students, and residents as required.
  • Contribute to the development of educational programs and community outreach initiatives focused on pediatric eye health.
  • Ensures that Ophthalmological care rendered meets Joint Commission standards. 
  • Monitors within established guidelines the quality of care provided. Participates in review/study of difficult and special cases. 
  • Monitors the eye care rendered on a daily basis to ensure that Joint Commission standards are met.
  • Keeps informed as to current developments in the field of ophthalmology.
  • Participates in weekly rounds and peer reviews.
  • Coordinates with the HOD in planning programs, integrating the curative and preventive aspects of total patient care.
  • Participates in the implementation of approved curative/preventive programs as they relate to Ophthalmology.
  • Participates in QA programs and  committees as requested by the Medical Director.
  • Orients new staff when requested to do so.
  • Communicates regularly with HOD and other members of the service.
  • Takes an active role in teaching activities provided for nursing & ancillary staff.
