JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
Lead and participate in geological activities including exploration play reviews, prospect ranking and maturation studies, hydrocarbon resource definition, log interpretations and correlations, exploration well proposals, proposals for snapshots and participation in multi-disciplinary studies to define and evaluate exploration prospects and leads in Abu Dhabi. Initiate and follow up closely on all geology related studies carried out by consultants. Provide technical support to the G&G and Studies’ Vice Presidents and SVP, Exploration function and representation of ADNOC in technical meetings with, OPCOs, OPCO shareholders, SPC companies, new Joint Ventures, vendors and consultants.
Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 1)
• Lead, initiate, coordinate and conduct exploration geological studies, specifically focused on the update of the conventional portfolio, and tight and deep gas reservoir play maturation. This includes well log interpretations in close cooperation with the petrophysicists, well log correlations, preparation of regional reservoir property maps, play maps, prospect maps and other maps, regional play evaluations, prospect ranking and maturation studies, basin analysis and geochemical studies, exploration well proposals, proposals for snapshots, volumetric assessments, etc., all in full cooperation with other disciplines and QC and integrating all petroleum engineering, geological and well data.
• Propose, justify and prepare the scope-of-work (SOW) for geological studies to be carried out by consultants and third parties, actively participating in the technical tender evaluations for those projects.
• Provide advice to Management and liaises with procurement and legal divisions on the drafting of the required contracts. Monitor and Quality Controls the work of geological consultants to ensure accuracy and clarity of the study results and adherence to the agreed SOW and contract, and reports results to management, relevant team members and other concerned parties.
• Proposes and justify data gathering activities such as the acquisition of cores, pressure measurements and wireline logs in exploration wells and snapshots or seismic or other geophysical data. This includes proposals for deepening of development wells drilled by Group Companies, SPC companies and new Joint Venture partners to explore the hydrocarbon potential of deeper horizons and tight gas reservoirs.
• Plan and participate in the ongoing training and development of UAE national employees and other junior exploration geologists. This includes assessing employee training and development needs, preparing structured familiarization, programs, monitoring progress and counseling employees as required.
• Liaise with suppliers of geological software, staying up-to-date with the latest software developments and new technologies which are of potential value to the function and to attend conferences, seminars and to review technical periodicals.
• Propose and prepare data exchanges / trades with companies active in the countries and emirates surrounding Abu Dhabi, to complement ADNOC corporate database and to be used in regional studies.
• Contribute to regular management reports such as the weekly highlights, weekly action points, daily exploration well drilling reports, etc.
• Recommend the acquisition of new software and hardware related to exploration geology. To participate in the preparation of justifications for these acquisitions.
Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 2)
• Coordinate, assist and delegate any ad-hoc tasks and projects such as data requests from universities or other third parties, training requests from UAE University, GIS database, etc.
• Ensure the receipt, QC, calibration and updating of corporate and exploration databases with data received from service providers, Group Companies, SPC companies, new Joint Ventures and other third parties.
• Assist the Division and Function management in developing strategies for the Exploration Function and the preparation of annual budget for projects and studies, the definition of task and targets for the staff, the risk register, audit reports and other documents and initiatives related to ADNOC++ and other management related documents.
• Assist in the preparation of bid rounds, including the preparation of data packages, roadshow presentations, briefing documents, etc.

• Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
• Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with best industry standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

• Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures, controls, applicable legislation, and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices.
Reports
• Provide inputs to prepare MIS and progress reports for Company Management.

Internal Communications & Working Relationships
• Daily with staff within the Division, function and Directorate regarding project execution
External Communications & Working Relationships
• Frequent contacts with staff from Group Companies, SPC companies, new Joint Ventures and International Shareholders on joint studies or exploration projects carried out by the OPCOs or SPC companies.
Minimum Qualification
• Bachelor Degree in Sciences Geology/Geophysics or equivalent.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
• 9 years of experience in all aspects of exploration geology including play evaluation, prospect ranking and maturation, exploration well proposal preparation, etc.
