Shuttering Carpenter

Key Responsibilities:

1. Formwork Construction:
   

   
   
   • Build, assemble, and install shuttering formwork for concrete foundations, walls, columns, beams, and slabs.
     
   • Interpret and follow technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create accurate formwork.
     

2. Measuring and Cutting Materials:
   

   
   
   • Measure, cut, and shape wood, metal, or other materials to construct the formwork.
     
   • Ensure that all measurements are precise and follow building codes and safety standards.
     

3. Erection and Removal of Shuttering:
   

   
   
   • Erect formwork structures for the pouring of concrete.
     
   • Ensure formwork is securely fixed and can withstand the pressure of wet concrete.
     
   • Safely dismantle and remove formwork once the concrete has set.
     

4. Maintenance of Tools and Equipment:
   

   
   
   • Maintain and care for carpentry tools, ensuring they are in good working condition.
     
   • Operate heavy equipment, such as scaffolding, cranes, or hoists, if required, for placing and removing shuttering.
     

5. Workplace Safety:
   

   
   
   • Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines while working on site.
     
   • Use appropriate safety gear and follow all health and safety protocols to prevent accidents.
     
   • Ensure that scaffolding and formwork are installed safely and meet construction standards.
     

6. Collaborating with Other Trades:
   

   
   
   • Work closely with other construction workers such as masons, engineers, and laborers to ensure the formwork is installed and removed at the right time.
     
   • Coordinate with the site manager or foreman to ensure proper sequencing of construction tasks.
     

7. Site Preparation and Clean-Up:
   

   
   
   • Prepare the site by ensuring all tools and materials are available and organized.
     
   • Clean up the work area after tasks are completed, ensuring all waste materials are disposed of properly.
     

8. Quality Control:
   

   
   
   • Ensure all formwork is square, level, and plumb.
     
   • Inspect and check the formwork for defects, and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the concrete is poured correctly and securely.
     

9. Compliance with Building Codes:
   

   
   
   • Ensure all work complies with local building codes, safety standards, and regulations.
     
   • Make sure formwork is designed to meet the specific requirements of the structure being built.
     

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Shuttering Carpenter, or similar role in the construction industry.
  
• Strong knowledge of carpentry and formwork techniques.
  
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  
• Good knowledge of materials used in shuttering, including wood, metal, and composite materials.
  
• Familiarity with construction safety standards and regulations.
  
• Ability to operate carpentry tools and machinery.
  
• Physical strength and stamina to carry out manual tasks.
