Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
The job holder is responsible to provide the Automation expertise in manging the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple or large-scale automation projects in combined volume in order to deliver the projects in time and under allotted Capex budget to support Borouge’s operations and systems in line with original equipment manufacturer’s user guide and engineering standards, and relevant ADNOC and International Standards.
The job holder is a technical authority in the area of Control & Automation to review and provide expert services and support for the new projects and continuously developing and implementing new processes, managing change, monitoring processes, analyzing data, and finding business process improvement opportunities, while ensuring safe, economic and technically sound advises are considered to meet the projects requirements and Borouge’s business objectives & ADNOC strategic goals.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Project Management
- Coordinate and execute strategic Capex projects including upgrade and process optimization in line with Borouge and ADNOC goal.
- Tracking project budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement cost-control strategies to ensure financial compliance and project profitability.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance plant productivity, efficiency, and safety.
- Present technical findings, project insights, and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.
- Lead the development of the functional and strategic projects in all stages with the respective stakeholders to meet the business objectives.
- Engage, coordinate and lead the projects’ communication with the project team, steering committees, and other internal / external parties to ensure the timely communication plan,
- Control expenditure against approved functional budget on a regular basis and investigate & reconcile any significant variances to ensure effective performance and cost control
- Oversee and lead the project completion and milestone achievement to ensure achieving the desired outputs and performance by the project team.
- Monitor the project progression and execution to meet the project plan and outputs, while ensuring the project governance with the respective processes and stakeholders.
- Follow up system constraints at all areas and coordinate with each partner for removal, ensuring smooth operations and resolving issues promptly.
Project Coordination
- Monitor the work of external contractors involved in project execution, to ensure adherence to Borouge's specifications, supporting project success.
- Review and liaise with manufacturers' representatives for safety system additions/modifications, to ensure compliance with Borouge's standards, supporting project integration.
- Administer software contracts with various OEMs/vendors, to obtain timely support for all systems, ensuring Borouge's operational continuity.
- Raise technical issues with vendors and implement recommended solutions, to address problems effectively, supporting Borouge's maintenance strategy.
- Assist other engineers in solving technical problems, facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing, supporting Borouge's team efficiency.
- Review control philosophy of all change requests and perform function tests of new and/or modified ESD and DCS applications, to ensure proper functionality, supporting Borouge's operational reliability.
Technical Advisor (C& A)
- Act as the technical Advisor for Control & Automation System Design, Engineering and provides necessary technical advice / guidance to various Asset Teams within Projects & Technical support and other Units/Function.
- Review and update AGES / BGS / HSECES procedures as required, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Perform technical screening of e-MOCs to assess and rank improvement proposals, supporting informed decision-making and prioritization.
- Coordinate all Instruments & Control System related affairs with other ADNOC Group Companies staff and within the company, ensuring consistency and collaboration.
- Develop and maintain codes of practice to ensure that standards are thoroughly understood and consistently complied with, promoting best practices.
- Follow up and supervise the installation and commissioning of new projects related to control and automation, ensuring successful implementation and integration.
- Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis and design review on equipment failures to identify corrective actions, modifications or repairs required, ensuring reliability and safety.
Reliability Support
- Oversee all reliability indices, identify gaps, and provide solutions, to enhance system reliability, supporting Borouge's maintenance strategy.
- Prepare purchase requisitions, to ensure timely procurement of necessary materials, supporting Borouge's operational needs.
- Review tasks and analyze potential loss and safety hazards, to identify critical tasks and mitigate risks, ensuring Borouge's safety standards.
- Perform reliability studies to ensure optimum equipment availability, to maximize uptime and efficiency, supporting Borouge's operational goals.
- Perform centralized failure data and root cause analyses of failures, to suggest solutions and prevent recurrence, supporting Borouge's continuous improvement.
- Perform technical troubleshooting and remove bad actors by taking corrective action on both internal and external audit findings, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Provide 24/7 telephone and on-call assistance on a rotational basis, to ensure support availability, enhancing Borouge's maintenance response.
Maintenance Execution
- Analyze strengths and weaknesses of current approaches and develop new solutions to enhance reliability standards, raising the improvement.
- Propose improvements in business processes and procedures to reduce risk and improve safety standards of the plant, ensuring operational excellence.
- Follow up proper operation philosophy and strategy to run the system at the most efficient and economical conditions, promoting cost-effectiveness.
- Develop skills assessment for planning team to identify gaps and create development plans, enhancing team capabilities and performance.
- Monitor and evaluate maintenance plan performance to identify areas for improvement, ensuring continuous enhancement of maintenance activities.
Process Control
- Assist project team as process control expert for major and minor modifications, to ensure proper implementation, supporting Borouge's project success.
- Support operation/running plant in fixing problems related to ESD and DCS application software, to maintain system functionality, supporting Borouge's operational reliability.
- Utilize process control expertise for related modifications and problems in the existing plant, to enhance system performance, supporting Borouge's continuous improvement.
- Ensure process control system performance and availability, to maintain operational efficiency, supporting Borouge's maintenance goals.
- Analyze end-user requirements and implement appropriate solutions, to meet operational needs, supporting Borouge's customer satisfaction.
- Upgrade automation systems periodically to avoid obsolescence issues, to keep systems current, supporting Borouge's technological advancements.

- Participate and contribute to the design, development and establishment of an Integrated Risk Management Framework within the Unit while identifying and assessing relevant domain risks and implement measures to manage and mitigate all identified risks within the function.

HSE Excellence
- Keep abreast and knowledgeable on the updates for Health, Safety, Environment, Crisis Management, and Risk Registers for all the performed processes, projects and activities within the operating zone.
- Promote, communicate and lead by example all the safety-related communications, updates, standards and any related topics with co-workers and within any interface.
- Contribute to provide timely feedback and recommendations to leverage a risk-free environment to ensure the ultimate goals of safe workplace.
Functional Strategy
- Contribute to the development and refinement of the functional strategies and objectives to meet and contribute to Borouge’s vision, mission and long / short term strategies.
- Recommend and advise on the functional processes and strategic projects within the domain of the function and discipline to support the decision making
- Recommend and advice on the development and implementation of the function's Business Strategy, to ensure alignment with the related business goals.
- Contribute to the deployment of business long and short term plans in line with the function’s performance objectives, processes, and agreed service levels.
