Job Description

POSITION TITLE:  SENIOR CT/MRI TECHNOLOGIST


REPORTS TO:    TECHNICAL DIRECTOR MID AND RADIOTHERAPY



POSITION SUMMARY:


To perform CT&MRI examinations within the units/clinics and the Medical Imaging Department of the American Hospital .To be part of all procedures and processes that allow the Medical Imaging Department in providing a high standard of service and patient care by assessing, monitoring, participating and assisting in the daily administration duties, infection control /risk management, quality improvement and departmental / hospital wide in-services

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    Independently performs all requested MRI/CT examinations in accordance with the Hospital and Departmental guidelines.
     Responsible for daily operations of the CT/MRI scanner, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).
    Assist the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of diagnostic, therapeutic, interventional and fusion CT/MRI procedures.
    Performs CT/MRI procedures; which include instructing and manipulating patients, selecting techniques and calibrating equipment, to obtain high quality images 
    Schedules patients for CT/MRI examinations if required. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and arranges patient priorities to accommodate them in conjunction with Radiologist instructions.
    Works closely with the radiologists to cater for all procedural needs and requirements
    Observing all safety measures in the specialized areas e.g. Radiation/MRI safety screening form.
    Reviews the request and previous studies before performing the examination.
    Cleans, stocks, check operation of equipment and accessory devices for safety on a daily basis in rostered areas. Clean and tidy rooms at the end of all shifts
    Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
    Uses cognitive CT/MRI skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. 
    Uses independent judgment during the CT/MRI exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. 
    Analyses, synthesizes CT/MRI information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
    Coordinates work schedule with Departmental Director and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
    Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the CT/ MRI environment care.
    Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral..
    Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
    Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems. 
    Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
    Reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member. 
    Provides in-service education team on requirements of CT/MRI procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
    Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, co-workers and all others in a    respectful , courteous and confidential manner
    Selecting appropriate imaging acquisition with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
    Post processing digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring proper identification is evident.
    Verifying informed consent for applicable procedures.
    Assuming responsibility for patient needs during procedures. 
    Preparing patients for procedures.
    Applying principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
    Performing venipuncture as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
    Starting, maintaining and/or removing intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
    Identifying, preparing and/or administering medications as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner. 
    Evaluating images for technical quality and ensuring proper identification is recorded. 
    Identifying and responding to emergency situations. 
    Assist the Technical Director of Medical Imaging with the co-ordination of the Departmental Quality Improvement and Education Programs.
    Participates in staff meetings and unit projects, and implementing/ evaluating creative approaches to meeting goals


    Perform and monitors safety checks on patients , employees and visitors to comply with the safety regulations in the MRI suite
    Assist with follow-up of Incident/Accidents and Patient Complaints as directed by Technical Director / Chief Radiologist
    Keeps equipment and work area clean and hygienic – by disinfecting machine and accessories regularly – keeping food and drinks away from work areas – personal items out of sight


    Prepare, administer and document activities related to medications in accordance with state and federal regulations or lawful institutional policy. 
    As members of the health care team, magnetic resonance technologists participate in quality improvement processes and continually assess their professional performance.
    Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise
    Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned



QUALIFICATIONS:


    Must have:
    Graduate of an accredited School, University, or Institution from where the qualification permits registration with the ARRT or its equivalent.

    Current Registered Licensure in country of citizenship or professional practice.
    Recommended:
    Knowledge of JCIA or accreditation standards.
    Knowledge of QI/CQI/PI philosophy.


Must have:


    At least five  (5)  years of recent  CT&MRI experience, with current clinical experience of  (5) years in CT&MRI
    CT/MRI technologists must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology.
    They must maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and technique.
    Technologists must possess, use and maintain knowledge about radiation, magnetic protection and safety.
    Evidence of continuing education.
    Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
    Knowledge of Middle Eastern customs is advantageous
