Database Management and Database Security
- Manage the database technology and associated schemas to allow secure, efficient, and effective access to data.
- Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database.
- Responsible for both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users.
- Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model.
- Refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements.
- Creating complex query definitions that allow data to be extracted and performing data analysis.
- Identify database requirements by understanding user specifications, analysing department applications, programming, and operations, evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.
- Ensure data remains consistent across the database, users can access data concurrently, maintain integrity of data.
Database Maintenance, Security and Support
- Plan and implement regular system upgrades to enhance service continuity and user experience. Installing, configuring, and testing new versions of the DBMS.
- Escalate unresolved database issues to appropriate vendors and manage these in accordance with agreed service level agreements to minimise user/system downtime
- Perform security and access control on all databases and provide audit reports as required.
- Controlling access permissions and privileges.
- Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly.
- Database capacity planning.
- Configuration of replication, integration and linking between servers as per the requirement.
- Incident Management providing on-call support for all operational databases.
- Taking responsibility for the diagnosis and resolution of critical problems in order to ensure the availability of all databases.
Database Backup and Recovery
- Define database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
- Developing, managing, and testing back-up and recovery plans.
- Providing first-line support if there is a need to switch operations to the Disaster Recovery Site (DRS).
Database Quality and Performance
- Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; recommending optimum access techniques, evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.
- Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
- Implementing industry best practices for all databases
- Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities
User Support and Training
- Train team on Database design and new implementations as required.
- Prepares users by conducting training; providing information; resolving problems.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
- Maintaining data standards, including adherence to all the standards the GCAA IT complies with.
- Ensure that all functional reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet GCAA requirements and quality standards.
Health, Safety and Environment within GCAA
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, quality and environmental management procedures and controls to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/services and a responsible environmental attitude as per IMS available standards
Other Tasks/ Accountability
- Perform additional tasks relevant to the role / area of expertise as requested by the management to be able to achieve the objectives/commitments.
