Regional Legal Director
Purpose of the Job
The Regional Legal Director main role is to act as strategic business partner to the management and stakeholders of a certain geography(ies) of the business. This includes managing and delivering effective and practical legal advice, direction and documentation to the Leadership Team of a designated geography in relation to a contract, customer or project related to that region, in addition to providing leadership and expertise in legal matters to the leaders of the designated geography and ensure compliance with the company’s wide Legal governance.
Job Description
Provide legal management of a designated geography, in relation to all business activities in that geography under supervision of the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel and in coordination and collaboration with the Regional VP of that geography. Act as member of geography Management Team and be part of forming and influencing the geography’s strategy, with requisite communication and inter-personal skills. Raise legal and regulatory considerations at an early stage, and set realistic expectations for timelines and costs, while also providing practical solutions. Assist business to prevent, navigate, and resolve complex legal issues in the designated geography. Report to stakeholders, on regular basis or as needed, any updates on applicable laws and regulations that could possibly have an impact on the business Lead and develop a regional legal team and put together a succession plan. Lead legal support on transactions within the designated geography, including major or complex transactions and participate/assist the General Counsel in M&A transactions. Implement all Corporate Governance policies and guidelines, as provided by the Global Corporate Governance team and the General Counsel, in all subsidiaries and other legal entities within the designated geography, and coordinate with the Global Corporate Governance team on all corporate files and records of those subsidiaries and legal entities. Advise on and negotiate material contract matters in the designated geography, including risk assessment, and ensure implementation of company’s policies in this regard as agreed with the Global Legal Director of Commercial Contracts. Report to the Global Legal Director of Commercial Contracts any specific contractual requirements for the designated geography. Manage communication and negotiations with several Postal Authorities and other regulatory bodies and associations in the designated geography in relation to licensing and regulatory laws affecting core business of the company. Own, manager and support dispute resolution in terms of business issues, potential or actual litigation in the designated geography, maintain up-to-date record of all litigation cases, and generate regular status reports and summaries and share with the General Counsel and the relevant stakeholders on monthly and quarterly basis or when/as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
Act as strategic business partner to the management and stakeholders of a designated geography. Litigation: own, manage and report to GC and regional management all existing of litigation and/or threatened claims and all related elements including direction, risks, cost, mitigation strategy and lessons learned. Build and share knowledge within the designated geography and the larger Legal Team. Budgeting: plan, own and manage legal spend. Succession planning and development of team members.
Experience and Education:
Education and Certification: must have a law degree from an accredited law school and must be licensed to practice law in the country. A master’s degree in law is a plus. Experience: should have minimum of 15 years’ experience practicing law in a commercial or corporate setting, preferably with experience in the transportation and logistics industry or sector.
