Job Description
We are seeking a Quality Assurance & Food Safety Supervisor to oversee food safety and quality control at our pet food manufacturing facility, which produces raw and gently cooked pet food. This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining our HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) program, ensuring regulatory compliance, and upholding the highest quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- HACCP Implementation & Maintenance: Develop, implement, and manage the HACCP plan, including hazard analysis, critical control points, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, verification, and record-keeping.
- Quality Assurance & Control: Oversee quality control measures throughout raw material reception, production, packaging, and storage to ensure compliance with internal, local and regulatory standards (FDA, USDA, AAFCO, FSMA, FEDIAF, and other applicable regulations).
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all products meet legal and safety requirements, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and other food safety guidelines.
- Audits & Inspections: Conduct internal audits and prepare for external audits by regulatory agencies and third-party certifiers.
- Employee Training: Train production staff on HACCP principles, food safety protocols, sanitation procedures, and proper handling techniques to prevent contamination.
- Sanitation & Hygiene Oversight: Monitor and enforce hygiene standards in the facility, ensuring that sanitation schedules and cleaning protocols are followed.
- Supplier & Ingredient Monitoring: Evaluate and approve suppliers, ensuring that raw materials meet required safety and quality standards.
- Corrective Actions & Continuous Improvement: Investigate quality and food safety issues, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Documentation & Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of HACCP plans, quality checks, sanitation logs, and compliance reports.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with the production, operations, and procurement teams to uphold quality and safety objectives.
Skills
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Animal Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience in food safety/quality assurance).
- HACCP Certification is required; PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in quality assurance and food safety, preferably in pet food, meat processing, or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, FDA, USDA, and AAFCO regulations for pet food manufacturing.
- Experience with food safety audits and regulatory inspections.
- Ability to lead and train teams in food safety and quality protocols.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other related software.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
