Job Description
Job Scope:
The role of the Purchasing Manager is to oversee the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and vendor management for our steel foundry and machine shop operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supply chain management, logistics excellent negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of the steel manufacturing process.
Main Responsibilities:
Develop and execute procurement strategies tailored to the unique needs of a steel foundry and machine shop, ensuring optimal sourcing of raw materials. Identify, evaluate, and develop strong relationships with domestic/international suppliers and sub vendors for the foundry and machine shop. Negotiate favorable terms with suppliers and ensure timely delivery of quality materials. Negotiate favorable terms with sub vendors and ensure timely delivery of outsourced activities and products. Conduct market analysis to identify potential suppliers, assess their capabilities, and facilitate competitive bidding processes. Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with production teams to forecast material requirements, preventing shortages or excess stock. Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality, including supplier audits and performance evaluations. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, particularly regarding material specifications and safety protocols. Work closely with engineering and production teams to understand technical requirements and ensure alignment with procurement activities. Manage import/export documentation and handle customs clearance. Utilize ERP systems to track orders, manage supplier performance, and streamline procurement processes for efficiency. Conduct regular assessments of supplier performance metrics, addressing any discrepancies and driving continuous improvement. Prepare and analyze procurement reports, providing insights to senior management on trends, challenges, and opportunities. Conduct regular performance reviews of suppliers and manage vendor performance and quality as per ISO and other relevant standards. Identify and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions, material shortages, and price volatility. Develop contingency plans to address critical supplier issues or material shortages. Lead and mentor the procurement team, fostering a culture of efficiency, transparency, and collaboration. Set clear performance goals, provide feedback, and support the professional growth of team members.
Skills
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus. Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement within the steel or metal foundry industry, showcasing a deep understanding of material requirements. Professional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are highly desirable. Proven track record of successful negotiation strategies leading to cost reductions and improved supplier relationships. Familiarity of INCO Terms and key import/export regulations. Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly those related to manufacturing and inventory management, is essential. Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in additional languages, is advantageous. Strong analytical skills to assess supplier performance and market trends, turning data into actionable procurement strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with internal teams and external suppliers. Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A proactive mindset with a focus on problem-solving and innovation to enhance procurement processes and outcomes.
