Details of the Division and Team:    


This role is a key first line of defense position within a business line from a service and risk management perspective. Reporting to the WM Middle East COO, you will support the Wealth Management business for Middle East Africa, Global South Asia. The role holder, within the Business Management Team will work closely with the team of Business Heads, Relationship Managers/Client Advisors and Booking centres.


The position will support the Business in conducting Level 1 Risk Monitoring activities  on a periodic basis for both MEA and GSA businesses, and other Business Management activities (Sales Management, MIS etc) across Middle East entities including DIFC and Saudi Arabia.

Your key responsibilities:


  • Design and implement a strong governance framework and control structure as the 1st Line of Defense for the Wealth management Business with respect to corporate guidelines, policies and Swiss/local regulators in collaboration with legal & compliance framework.
  • Perform Level 1 testing of the various controls & thematic reviews as defined in the Operational Risk framework on a periodic basis, present the findings to Business with rationale and provide recommendations (process re-engineering / training) to minimize risks and to support the supervisors effectively completing the navigator controls.
  • Provide guidance, consultation and training to help improve overall understanding of and adherence to procedural/regulatory requirements to Team (On-boarding Specialists, Investment Advisors, Service Assistants, Business Heads, RM/Client Advisors etc). Work with ME COO on the KRI reports for the Teams.  Monitor the Advisory Process, Suitability and Appropriateness, Portfolio Concentration counterparty risk to mitigate portfolio risks.
  • Implement the OpRisk control mechanism framework.
  • Present the control results in the business area at the BRM committees and other forums.
  • Support any remediation or business related projects emanating locally or from the Booking Centre along with Business partners – Business Heads, Relationship Managers, On boarding Specialists, Service Assistants and ensure completion before stipulated deadlines.
  • Conduct Business Management induction trainings for New joiners and refreshers where applicable.
  • Participate in all SE group projects and meetings as applicable.
  • Be part of any new projects for the DIFC entity with regards to IGSA, Annual constellation framework for the Booking Centres, Cross Border Teams,  Avaloq or any other system upgrades or roll outs to best fit the local governance requirements.
  • Support the COO in coordinating regulatory and internal audits and actioning audit items to ensure completion before stated deadlines.
  • Remain current and thorough on operational processes, services and firm’s systems/applications in order to efficiently conduct the testing.
  • Be part of the Business Continunity Management.
  • Highlight any suspicious activity to Business Head/Business Manager/Office Manager in a timely manner  and work closely with local AFC Team.
  • Highlight any client complaints to Business Heads/Business Manager/Office Manager.
  • Complete all mandatory and required trainings.

Your skills and experience:


  • Prior experience managing a team who cover the region and a sound understanding of the practical legal / regulatory challenges in these markets
  • Strong knowledge of DFSA and SAMA/CMA regulations and acquainted with interactions with regulators.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the candidate would be expected to form strong relationships with cross divisions within the local coverages and CFE as well as local regulators.
  • Well versed in the regulatory requirements for both local as well as the various booking centres.
  • Skilful in conducting investigations and report writing
  • Able to communicate effectively both oral and written forms.
  • Able to identify, assess and mitigate risks across various aspects of the organisatio, including operational, project, Financial and strategic risks.
  • Possess the experience of fostering a culture of compliance and risk awareness throughout the organisation from top leadership to front-line employees.
  • Able to both be hands-on and perform the risk controls as well as managing a team and see the big picture
