Job Description

The Planning Engineer specializing in steel will oversee project scheduling, resource planning, and coordination for steel structure fabrication and erection projects. This role ensures project timelines, budgets, and quality requirements are met while collaborating with various stakeholders across design, procurement, and execution phases.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Scheduling and Planning:
  • Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar tools.
  • Prepare detailed plans for fabrication, transportation, and erection of steel structures.
  • Set milestones and deadlines in alignment with project objectives.
Coordination and Communication:
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather project requirements.
  • Communicate project timelines and updates to clients, subcontractors, and teams.
  • Coordinate between design, procurement, and site teams to ensure alignment with the schedule.
Resource Management:
  • Plan and allocate manpower, equipment, and materials for efficient project execution.
  • Monitor steel material availability and work with procurement teams for timely delivery.
  • Identify resource constraints and propose solutions to mitigate delays.
Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Track progress against the project baseline and update schedules accordingly.
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports highlighting key metrics and variances.
  • Analyse delays and recommend corrective actions
Budgeting and Cost Control:
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates and budgets for steel-related activities.
  • Monitor expenses to ensure compliance with project budgets.
Risk and Issue Management:
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Proactively address scheduling conflicts and bottlenecks to avoid delays.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project planning, preferably in steel fabrication and erection.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar scheduling software.
  • Strong knowledge of steel structures, fabrication, and erection processes.
  • Familiarity with design drawings, shop drawings, and structural detailing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
