Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer in Facility Management is responsible for ensuring the effective operation, maintenance, and optimization of mechanical systems within the facility, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Operations:
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, pumps, etc.).
- Perform routine inspections, troubleshoot mechanical systems, and resolve issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance (PM) program for all mechanical systems.
System Design and Installation:
- Provide engineering support for the design, installation, and modification of mechanical systems within the facility.
- Assist in the selection of equipment and materials based on project needs, specifications, and budget.
Project Management:
- Coordinate with internal teams and contractors for mechanical system installations, upgrades, and replacements.
- Ensure mechanical systems comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
Energy Management:
- Implement energy-saving measures in mechanical systems, including HVAC and lighting controls, to reduce energy consumption.
- Monitor system performance to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Assist in the development of budgets for mechanical system maintenance and improvements.
- Track and control costs related to repairs, parts procurement, and new equipment installations.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with facility management teams, building operators, and external vendors to ensure smooth operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Provide technical support to facility staff and address any mechanical-related concerns.
RequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Additional certifications in Facility Management (e.g., IFMA, BOMA) or HVAC systems are a plus.
3-5 years of experience in mechanical systems maintenance, facility management, or related roles.
Experience with HVAC, plumbing, fire protection systems, and building automation systems.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including design, installation, and maintenance.
Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar software for system design.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
Excellent project management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Excellent communication skills for reporting and coordinating with team members, vendors, and contractors.
