As Director of Government Affairs and Policy in International region you will play a pivotal role in channelling our capabilities to catalyse policy change across the region for the benefit of patients and healthcare systems. You will lead the coordination and execution of strategies to drive improved access to care and treatment for patient living with rare diseases (PLWRD).

In this position you will have the unique opportunity to work hand-in-hand with our above-market and in-market Corporate Affairs teams to drive partnerships that transform healthcare across our diverse market in international region.


You will direct internal resources and engage externally to promote a policy environment which will enable healthcare systems and AstraZeneca to succeed in our bold ambitions to become the #1 company in Rare disease.


In International, our key priorities are:


  • Drive a leading corporate reputation: Drive thought leadership and be recognised as a leader in Rare Disease
  • Lead transformation of sustainable healthcare delivery: Enable a more sustainable and equity ecosystem for PLWRD
  • Building best in class environment shaping capability: Capability building tailored for rare disease CA community

You understand that to be successful in this role you will develop a strong understanding of Rare Disease-related healthcare topics as well as the political-economic environment in which healthcare policy is made. You have a special gift and motivation to find solutions which benefit multiple stakeholders and have the proven ability to move matters through collaboration.


You will be a member of the AstraZeneca International Corporate Affairs organization and will work closely with many colleagues in our Global Policy Team, our medical and commercial leaders as well as our local teams across International markets. You will report to the Senior Director Corporate Affairs, Rare Disease International.


What you’ll do


  • Coordinate and implement policy shaping partnerships for rare diseases. This includes:
    • Map, assess, augment, and accelerate the delivery of policy shaping programmes with a focus on positive outcomes for patients
    • Adopt and adapting existing management tools to help prioritise and track policy shaping activities across the area
  • Engage with multilateral organizations and promote partnership with key institutions across Global/Region & local markets.
  • Assess and grow internal policy shaping capabilities, with a particular focus on ensuring alignment between national political priorities and our therapy area-specific objectives.
  • Champion and oversee the creation of strong external relationships and partnerships with relevant stakeholders such as policymakers/advisors, patient advocacy groups, clinical experts and medical societies.

The selected candidate for the role will continue to work from their current work location.


Essential for the role:


  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in Public health Affairs
  • Previous experience in Rare disease is desirable
  • In-depth knowledge of therapy areas and how health systems operate
  • Excellent communicator with experience collaborating in a fast-moving, multi-cultural workplace
  • Strategic thinker and ability to comprehend complex matters and chart a clear path forward
  • Leadership capability with strong self-awareness and ability to lead through persuasion rather than authority
  • Self-starting, independent, entrepreneurial attitude – a smart risk-taker who thrives on new challenges and on seeing things through to completion
