Research at School of Business
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), a member of the University of Wollongong Australia global network, plays a lead role in learning, discovery and innovation in the United Arab Emirates and aspires to transform the lives of the people in the region and the world we live in. Researchers at SOB collaborate with over 50 countries around the world.
Research at SOB focuses on three main areas namely digitisation, sustainability and globalisation and is organized through the following three clusters namely:
• The Future of Business,
• Sustainable Business Practices, and
• Global Business Challenges
Further, these clusters are built on the foundation of enhancing responsible research and impact and catalyzed by principles of: (i) Multidisciplinary Research; (b) Solving Real World Problems; (c) Encouraging Collaboration and Inclusion and; and (d) Building Research Capacity. The three main research clusters are aligned with UAE National Agenda and UNSDGs. SOB high-quality research outputs contribute towards SDG 9, 12, 8 and 16.
Position Profile
The primary objective of this program is to equip one Emirati national with all the skills required to become an internationally leading academic in the area of Fintech. More specifically, the program aims at raising the candidate’s profile in three main areas namely teaching, research and engagement. The goal of the program is to (1) guide the candidate to achieve teaching excellence, (2) research excellence, and (3) develop a network with well-established scholars and institutions both domestically and internationally. Upon completion of this program, the candidate will become (a) internationally competitive to secure an academic position in a high-ranking university and (b) an Emirati Exemplar for other scholars.
Under the close supervision of the well-established mentors, the candidate will develop and teach innovative teaching materials and approaches to apply several AI components, Fintech, Virtual Assets and Web3 Technology in one major finance course at UOWD . The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the scholars across the UOW network and contribute in appropriate ways in line with teaching and learning and research strategy
As for the research side, the successful completion of this program will also provide opportunities to the candidate to develop competencies in AI guidance, Virtual Assets regulations and emerging financial technologies and its impact on global markets. The candidate will build his/her network in Fintech through academic conferences and will aim to publish in high ranking journals and apply for research awards. The candidate will be assisted to develop and maintain a good global connection with universities and scholars.
Key responsibilities/accountabilities
Prepare, deliver, and assess lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical classes, and workshops.
Develop and produce teaching materials, including technology-enhanced learning resources.
Handle administrative tasks related to teaching, such as student consultations, marking, assessment, and quality assurance.
Conduct and publish research; seek research funding.
Supervise postgraduate students and oversee industry-based projects.
Engage with industry and academic colleagues for collaborative research.
Assist, as appropriate, with student services, including recruitment, registration, onboarding, and support.
Comply with all relevant UOWD policies and guidelines.
