Job Description
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Render resident medical services to inpatients in accordance with evidence based professional standards for the speciality, under supervision of the named physician.
- Support the Consultant / Specialist staff in the delivery of Obstetric and Gynaecological services on both an elective and emergency basis using methods and techniques compatible with generally accepted professional standards in the general speciality and subspecialties provided at the hospital.
- Plan and effect follow up care for patients as requested by the Consultant / Specialist in charge of the patient.
- Provide resident medical services over 24 hours coverage on a rotational basis 7 (seven) days a week including holidays, weekends and with prospective cover for annual and study leave.
- Consult with all other medical staff as required.
- Assist in admission process for the patient according to the medical specialties.
- Ensure optimal documentation and clinical handover for patients seen through the department in line hospital policy.
- Interpret urgent and critical results, liaising with treating physician.
- Carry out bedside clinical procedures within the competencies.
- Attend departmental & medical staff meetings as scheduled.
- Carry out other clinical and administrative duties as are requested by the Head of Department or Chief Medical Officer.
MANAGEMENT RESPOSIBILITIES
- Participate in improvement initiatives within the department, including but not limited to K.P.Is monitoring.
- Together with the Consultant or Head of the Department shall deal appropriately with complaints when necessary.
- Foster interdepartmental liaison.
- Ensure safe prospective coverage of the medical unit based on the rota.
EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help in the departmental orientation of new staff, patients and their families as necessary.
- Promote Health Education to patients and their families.
- Demonstrate and affirm a commitment to Continuing Medical Education (CME)
- Participate in continuous professional appraisal and evaluation annually.
- Participate in regular, multidisciplinary team clinical case reviews.
- Participate in all hospital Mandatory Training Programs.
PROFESSIONAL / PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review with the departmental head, adverse events, problem incidents and complaints, and explore all opportunities to improve the quality of care and provide recommendations in regard to risk management.
- Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings when invited.
- Assist the department head and develop best practice guidelines and protocols.
- Attend mandatory in-service education.
- Commit to the hospital’s employee Code of Conduct
- The post holder will be expected to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Health and Safety regulations of the hospital.
