Job Description

Job Summary: As a Director of Recreation you are responsible for the entire operation of the leisure club facilities and to prepare the annual department budget in line with the costs involved.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare departmental annual budget and ensures sales and costs are in line throughout the year
  • Ensure optimum memberships and monitors levels constantly
  • Ensure all Employees are trained to sell membership
  • Coordinate members’ fitness assessments and ensures each member receives an individual exercise programme along with the necessary instruction on use and safety
  • Engage specialised instructors such as a fitness instructors and ensures they have the necessary professional qualifications as well as the interpersonal skills
  • Maintain all areas in a spotless and hygienic condition, including locker and shower rooms
  • Ensure all Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations are strictly adhered to and implements any legislation as required
  • Supervise any Food & Beverage areas within the Recreation department and ensures they are efficiently operated. May coordinate/communicate with Food & Beverage in this regard
  • Check that all department reports and correspondence are completed punctually and accurately
  • Follow the correct procedures for Employee requisitioning, training, developing and termination
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in sports and fitness techniques and equipment, and makes appropriate recommendations to the management
  • Organise sports and social activities for Guests and members incorporating members’ requirements and feedback
  • To abide with the COVID-19 pracuationary measures and protocols as guided by the Hotel
  • Oversee the security of the recreation areas, ensuring each member and Guest registers on entering the club and their identity is validated
  • Carry out duty management shifts to the Hotel standard and according to the schedule set by the Executive Office
  • Operate in a safe and environmentally friendly way to protect guests’ and employees’ health and safety, as well as protect and conserve the environment
  • Comply with the hotel environmental, health and safety policies and procedures
