CT AND MRI TECHNOLOGIST
Conducts Computed Tomography/Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CT/MRI) examinations per the guidelines of the American Hospital Dubai and the Medical Imaging Department. Performs the daily operations of CT/MRI scanners, patient schedules, equipment maintenance, and Quality Assessment. Assists licensed practitioners in diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional CT/MRI procedures, performs these procedures, and ensures high-quality images. Coordinates with radiologists, ensuring safety measures, reviewing requests and previous studies, and maintaining ethical standards. Performs administrative duties including scheduling, organizing work schedules, addressing patient care issues, reporting equipment failures, and participating in quality improvement programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all requested CT/MRI examinations per American Hospital Dubai and Medical Imaging Department guidelines.
- Maintains the daily operations of the CT/MRI scanner, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and Quality Assessment (QA).
- Assists the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of diagnostic, therapeutic, interventional, and fusion CT/MRI procedures.
- Performs CT/MRI procedures, which include instructing and manipulating patients, selecting techniques, and calibrating equipment, to obtain high-quality images.
- Schedules patients for CT/MRI examinations if required.
- Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and arranges patient priorities to accommodate them in conjunction with Radiologist instructions.
- Works closely with the radiologists to cater for all procedural needs and requirements
- Observes all safety measures in the specialized areas (e.g. Radiation/MRI safety screening form).
- Reviews the request and previous studies before performing the examination.
- Cleans, stocks, and checks the operation of equipment and accessory devices for safety daily in rostered areas.
- Cleans and tidies rooms at the end of all shifts.
- Maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
- Uses cognitive CT/MRI skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images.
- Uses independent judgment during the CT/MRI exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
- Analyses and synthesizes CT/MRI information and medical history and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
- Coordinates work schedule with the Team Lead and schedules desk to ensure workload coverage.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety, and mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the CT/MRI environment care.
- Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, and referrals.
- Coordinates with other staff to ensure appropriate patient care is provided.
- Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
- Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical duties as required.
- Reports equipment failures to the appropriate Team Lead or staff member.
- Provides in-service education team on requirements of CT/MRI procedures as requested by other members of the health care team.
- Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, co-workers, and all others in a respectful, courteous, and confidential manner.
- Selects appropriate imaging acquisition with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
- Maintains post-processing digital data for display or hard copy records and ensures proper identification is evident.
- Verifies informed consent for applicable procedures.
- Assumes responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
- Prepares patients for procedures.
- Applies principles of As-Low-As-Reasonably-Achievable (ALARA) to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
- Performs venepuncture as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
- Performs intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
- Identifies, prepares, and administers contrast as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
- Evaluates images for technical quality and ensures proper identification is recorded.
- Identifies and responds to emergencies.
- Assists the Chief Of Medical Imaging or Technical Director with the coordination of the Departmental Quality Improvement and Education Programs.
- Participates in staff meetings and unit projects, implements, and evaluates creative approaches to meeting goals.
- Performs and monitors safety checks on patients, employees, and visitors to comply with the safety regulations in the MRI suite.
- Assists with follow-up of Incidents/Accidents and Patient Complaints as directed by the Chief Of Medical Imaging or CT Supervisor.
- Keeps equipment and work area clean and hygienic by disinfecting machines and accessories regularly and keeping food and drinks away from work areas – personal items out of sight.
- Prepares, administers, and documents activities related to contrast per state and federal regulations or lawful institutional policy.
- Participates in quality improvement processes and continually assesses their professional performance.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS :
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiography/Radiology Technology or Medical Imaging
- Active home country registration
- Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a CT/MRI Technologist
- Knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology
- Knowledge of radiation, magnetic protection, and safety
- Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) or accreditation standards
- Knowledge of Middle East Culture and Customs
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and CT/MRI techniques
- Ability to speak and write in English fluently
