Role: Conflicts Advisor


Reporting line: Conflicts Manager and/or Conflicts Supervisor


Requirements & Personal Attributes:

Primary Job Purpose: 


The Conflicts Advisor will be responsible for conflicts clearance review and analysis for new business intake and lateral hires, working directly with the Conflicts Manager and Senior Conflict Advisors, as well as with lawyers and assist with collation of information for escalation to the firm's Conflicts of Interest Working Group, to identify and resolve potential ethics and business conflict issues.


This role’s main objective is to ensure the firm is complying with applicable conflict checking rules and procedures when taking on new matters, including the evaluation of conflict search results, following up with lawyers, and administering and maintaining the firm’s conflicts database/system. 


Duties & Responsibilities: 


  • Reviewing, analysing conflict results using Intapp and approving the clearance of conflicts.
  • Drafting communications to send to lawyers, clearly identifying all potential issues found in conflict reports.
  • Escalating complex conflict issues and liaising with the Senor Conflict Advisors as appropriate.
  • Following up with secretaries and lawyers to ensure internal discussions are being handled to clear any potential conflicts
  • Approving the clearance of conflicts so that the Compliance can open a new matter
  • Assisting lawyers with the drafting of waiver requests/letters.
  • Managing the update of blackbook entries, outside business interests, secondment arrangements etc. in the conflict checking system.
  • Taking the initiative to analyse and resolve conflicts independently.
  • Assisting the Senior Conflict Advisors with the conflict enquiries
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on applicable conflicts procedures and policies.
  • Assisting the Head of Risk Management & Conflicts including updating firm-wide Conflicts of Interest policies and procedures, as required.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of Intapp and reporting systems.
  • Participating in providing coverage for conflict checking and analysis via on-call rotation on scheduled weekends.
  • Assisting and contributing, as required, to projects aimed at improving compliance knowledge across the firm including training.
  • Managing the administration of information barriers and mailbox.
  • At the conflicts review stage, conducting KYC searches and escalating any adverse hits accordingly to the KYC team.
