Job Description

The Chief Quantity Surveyor (CQS) in Civil Engineering is responsible for overseeing the cost management, contract administration, and financial tracking of civil engineering projects. The CQS ensures that construction projects are completed within their projected budgets.


Key Responsibilities:


Cost Management:


1.Prepare and maintain project budgets and cost forecasts.


2.Evaluate and advise on costs associated with project design changes.


3.Lead cost planning efforts to ensure projects remain within budget.


Contract Administration:


Oversee the preparation of contract documents.


Manage and negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers.


Ensure compliance with contractual obligations.


Handle claims and disputes related to contracts.


Financial Tracking and Reporting:


Monitor and track project financial performance.


Prepare regular cost reports for project stakeholders.


Identify and report on cost variances.


Quantity Take-Offs and Bill Preparation:


Conduct detailed quantity take-offs for all aspects of work.


Prepare and update bills of quantities as required.


Project Coordination:


Work closely with project managers, engineers, and architects to achieve project objectives.


Attend project meetings and provide input on cost-related matters.


Risk Management:


Identify potential financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.


Assess and manage change orders and additional claims.


Leadership:


Lead and manage a team of quantity surveyors.


Provide guidance and training to junior staff.


Promote best practices in quantity surveying within the team.



Requirements

·Bachelor's/Master’s Degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognized University with a minimum post qualified experience of 10 years (or)


·Bachelor of Quantity Surveying Degree or Master’s Degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognized University with a Professional membership of recognized institution (in Quantity Surveying Division) with a minimum post membership/ Bachelor’s/Master’s experience of 05 years (or)


·Civil Engineering Degree with minimum 12 years post qualified experience in Quantity Surveying (or)


·Civil Engineering Degree with a Professional membership of recognized institution (in Quantity Surveying division) or Master’s Degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognized University with a minimum post membership / Master’s experience of 05 years.
