The Cloud Engineering Team Lead plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and managing the organization’s cloud infrastructure to ensure it is secure, scalable, and compliant with relevant regulations and standards. This position combines leadership responsibilities with hands-on development and engineering tasks. You will manage a team of cloud engineers, collaborate with cross-functional departments, and implement best practices for cloud architecture, data security, governance, and compliance.
In addition to strategic oversight, you will actively participate in the design and development of cloud solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and staying ahead of technological trends and risks.
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-On Cloud Development & Engineering
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Implement, monitor, and optimize containerized applications using Kubernetes and Docker.
- Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient and automated deployment processes for virtual machines and containerized systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers, providing technical guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Foster collaboration across teams, including software development, product management, and legal, to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions with business needs.
- Oversee resource allocation and prioritize tasks to meet organizational goals and project timelines.
Governance & Compliance
- Monitor and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards such as ISO 27001, GDPR, and SOC 2.
- Develop and enforce governance policies related to security, data protection, and access control.
- Conduct audits and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and reporting to support compliance requirements during internal and external audits.
Strategic Infrastructure Management
- Manage and optimize cloud hosted infrastructure tools, including Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), Azure DevOps, and other internal platforms.
- Oversee cloud asset management, ensuring efficient and cost-effective use of resources while maintaining compliance with organizational policies.
- Collaborate with presales and operations teams for tasks such as RFI responses, cost estimation, and cloud architecture design.
DevOps & Observability Practices
- Champion the adoption of DevOps practices to streamline automation, monitoring, and incident management.
- Deploy and maintain observability and monitoring systems, such as Grafana, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry, to ensure reliability and proactive issue resolution.
Qualifications:
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, with a demonstrated ability to lead teams.
- Hands-on expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-native services.
- Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Experience with container orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes and Docker.
- Advanced knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automation, and monitoring tools.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with serverless architectures and multi-cloud environments.
- Familiarity with observability tools for distributed tracing and performance monitoring.
- Strong understanding of authentication, identity management, and access control systems (e.g., Azure AD).
- Solid understanding of relational databases and their integration in cloud environments.
- Proven ability to conduct governance audits and ensure compliance with regulatory standards (ISO 27001, GDPR, SOC 2).
