Job SummaryThe Transmission Overhauling Technician will specialize in diagnosing, repairing, andoverhauling transmissions in customer and dealership vehicles. This role requires extensiveknowledge and hands-on experience with transmission systems, focusing on quality repairs,adherence to manufacturer standards, and ensuring optimal vehicle performance. Thetechnician will contribute to customer satisfaction and uphold the dealership’s reputationfor excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesTransmission Overhauling and Repair- Perform complete transmission overhauls, including disassembly, inspection, repair,reassembly, and testing.- Diagnose transmission issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques todetermine necessary repairs.- Repair or replace transmission components such as clutches, gearboxes, torqueconverters, seals, and bearings.- Ensure that overhauled transmissions meet manufacturer specifications and dealershipquality standards.Diagnostics and Troubleshooting- Use specialized diagnostic equipment to identify faults in automatic and manualtransmission systems.- Conduct system tests, including fluid pressure checks and electronic control modulediagnostics.- Collaborate with Service Advisors to explain required transmission repairs and providedetailed repair estimates.Maintenance and General Repairs- Perform routine maintenance on transmission systems, such as fluid changes and filterreplacements.- Ensure proper calibration and programming of electronic transmission control systemsafter repairs.Quality Control- Test overhauled transmissions to ensure smooth operation and reliability.- Conduct road tests to verify that the transmission performs to specifications under variousdriving conditions.- Ensure all repairs meet dealership quality and safety standards.Documentation and Reporting- Maintain accurate records of all transmission repairs and overhauls in the dealership’sservice system.- Prepare detailed reports on findings and work performed for customer records andinternal use.Compliance and Safety- Follow all manufacturer guidelines and dealership policies for transmission repair andoverhauling.- Adhere to workplace safety standards, including the use of protective gear and safehandling of transmission fluids and parts.- Dispose of hazardous materials, such as transmission fluids, in compliance withenvironmental regulations.Training and Development- Stay updated on the latest transmission technologies and repair techniques throughtraining programs.- Mentor junior technicians and apprentices, sharing expertise in transmission overhauling.
