Job Description

Key Accountability:


•            Responsible for safety, production, quality and budgets for their area of mine operations


•            Work with manager, HOD, other Superintendents and their frontline supervisors to control mine operations


•            Responsible for the workers, equipment, tools and materials in mine operations


•            Prepare and approve plans, delegate work to their teams, oversee progress, solve problems, and take corrective action when required


•            Organize budgets and monitor spending


•            Prepare reports and briefs on production, safety, progress on projects and more


•            Lead and participate in meetings and briefings


•            Recruit, train and develop employees, with support from frontline supervisors and human resources (HR) specialists


•            Oversee the development of supervisors, providing support and guidance


•            Work with trade union(s), supervisors and HR department to avoid and resolve personnel issues and grievances Plans, administers and reviews the production activities/development of mining operation to optimize resource use, minimize costs and maintain quality standards for Ma’aden Gold. Reviews data such as maps and survey reports. This position is responsible for implementing operational excellence activities within the job holder’s span of control.


•            Plans production schedules and labor and material input requirements to meet output quantity, quality and timing specifications. Includes liaising with Geology, Engineering and Mine engineer and supervisors to ensure all relevant personnel are aware and understand productivity requirements. Directs the formulation of mining production strategies, policies and plans. 


•            Ensures conduct of Explosive shipments orders and payments to meet production deadlines.


•            Performs other similar or related duties such as researching new and improved methods and products for mine production.


•            Supervises the activities of assigned personnel. Performs supervisory functions and exercises financial authority at the department head level as established by Management.


•            Supervises the department’s implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) programs. Attends and provides input to strategy and policy development and review meetings; ensures that the promotion of the company’s policies and procedures in the underground mine is effective and monitors activities to ensure compliance. Participates in Incident Response and Command activities, reviews and comments on incident reports and carries out independent investigations of all accidents and near misses involving own staff or facilities. Ensures that all contractors/consultants are fully briefed on the Company’s HSE regulations and signs accordingly during contract signing. Provides independent advice and comments on HSE issues to improve company programs.


•            Coordinate and control mining equipment to optimize production flows. Manage the contractors performance to produce and dispatch ore of the required quality, in a safe environment.


•            Monitor and control appropriate quality standards- dilution, ore loss, geotechnical, mill feed, operating level, pit and dump design.


•            Take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of all personnel including contractors working within the mining area. and Manage, coordinate and complete all works for the contractors.


•            Develop continuous improvement strategies and communicate and apply accordingly. Monitor availability and utilization of the contractors equipment.


•            Identifying the risks in work area and using the correct controls.


•            Assisting new employees in the application of the proper work procedures and practices.


•            Monitoring progress against plan / budget and reporting significant deviations.


•             Examining mining methods and equipment to improve performance.


•            Overseeing and approving drill and blast plans.


•            Identify and help drive improvements in productivity and cost reduction.


•            Developing pit design standards and ensuring compliance.


•            Leading and developing the mine team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to optimize their performance and ensure the achievement of production and cost targets.


Minimum Qualifications: 


Bachelor's degree in mining, Geology, or Survey Engineering or equivalent.


Minimum Experience:  


8 years of technical experience in mining operations.


Good in Surpac, Minesched and Whittle Software's
