The project:
This is an opportunity to be involved in the delivery of major sports stadiums and associated projects in Saudi Arabia. Mace is currently delivering the programme which will require high-calibre and experienced people to lead teams throughout each phase of the project.

High calibre, expert mechanical design engineer who is able to manage, guide, and direct work carried out by consultants and contractors on high-end and/or complex fast-track buildings, including stadiums and other competition/non-competition sports venues, from concept stage through to construction and handover.

You’ll be responsible for:
- Carry out the review of mechanical, HVAC, and public health design deliverables, including drawings, reports, specifications and calculations.
- Contributing to client presentations of design deliverables.
- Allocating and managing the quality and performance of mechanical engineering work from consultants, contractors, and assigned engineers and junior engineers where directed.
- Reviewing and approval of project design packages to ensure the expected quality, project brief, code requirements, client requirements and QAQC/management procedures are fulfilled.
- Contributing to bid proposals, particularly in developing the MEP scope of services, deliverables, assumptions/exclusions, programme and commercials.
- Engaging with clients at the inception phase of a project and converting initial client requirements to a technical brief and concept design options in collaboration with the client, consultants, stakeholders and design team.
- Developing in-house mechanical and public health internal technical resources guidance and references to improve efficiency of the design management process.
- Collaborating closely with remote project teams and ensuring compliance with local requirements and, where directed, assisting and representing the satisfactory performance of their services to local clients and stakeholders.
- Contributing to the identification of resource gaps and definition of requirements.
- Checking, reviewing and monitoring mechanical design deliverables and outputs from project sub-consultants and contractors.
- Attending and representing the client and engineering department at design workshops and technical meetings with local authorities, consultants, and contractors.
- Forecasting, planning and managing own workload and technical/commercial/programme progress against agreed criteria.
- Providing mechanical engineering technical support and engaging personally where required to successfully enable stakeholder partners and local authorities’ approvals on all projects, whether locally or remotely designed.
- Raising and maintaining the profile and reputation of the engineering department in the region by developing network contacts and participating in appropriate industry events.
- Reporting to the director of MEP engineering.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of the clients’ brief, design strategy, procurement and execution of the scheme.
- Organising and chairing design reviews and facilitating the value engineering of design consultant’s and contractor’s solutions.
- Ensuring a cohesive management process is adhered to in all stages of the scheme.
- Monitoring compliance with the project brief.
- Monitoring the progress against the project scope.
- Scheduling of design reviews at all gateways and control points.
- Organising and managing technical review team resources and input.
- Managing the design process, not personally responsible for delivering design or hands-on production of design deliverables.
- Reporting functionally to the government entity department directors and operationally to the EPMO project director.
- Managing/reporting changes and providing oversight, guidance, direction and escalation.
- Establishing an understanding and implementation of the existing programme wide EXPRO standards and processes and recommended tools for development and use on the programme.
- Contributing to the preparation of department operating structure based on EXPRO’s methodology and in alignment with government entity structure.
- Implementing EXPRO’s standard design processes/procedures and contributing to the development and continuous improvement of the processes and procedures.
- Reviewing claims submitted by consultants, contractors, and designers to assure these claims applications in matters of the approved quantities and specifications and in the required quality.
- Ensuring that projects provide input to monthly dashboards and progress reports.
- Review, validate and consolidate project monthly design dashboards and reports, and raise any issues and concerns.
You’ll need to have:
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional qualification.
- High technical proficiency in mechanical building services on high-end and/or complex buildings, including stadiums in the Middle East.
- Proficiency in BIM, Navisworks, Revit and other specialist software packages.
- Understanding of new construction delivery methodologies and strategies for large fast-track multi-site projects.
- Experienced in interacting with a wide range of architectural, engineering, planning, and other relevant disciplines.
- Experienced in HVAC, hot/cold water, chilled water, drainage, fire protection, gas and BMS/controls design to ASHRAE, CIBSE, NFPA, DW, SMACNA, British/American and local codes/standards.
- Experienced in the site supervision and testing and commissioning of mechanical and public health systems.
- Proficient in dynamic performance modeling techniques using, for example, IES-VE, and computational fluid dynamics.
- Demonstrates leadership and core competencies at a high level of development and is an exemplary model of living the corporate values and code of ethics.
- Provides senior leadership and direction over an integrated team, oversight and indirect supervision of staff in a matrix environment.
- Provides senior leadership in the area of design management to program management leads that are dedicated to each of the program delivery units.
- Working knowledge and basic understanding of other engineering disciplines, including architecture, electrical, BMS, structural, civil, sustainability, etc.
