Job Description

The Senior Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment on oil and gas rigs, production facilities, and processing plants. This includes generators, transformers, motors, switchgear, control panels, lighting systems, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). The role requires expertise in high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems, hazardous area classification (ATEX/IECEx), and compliance with industry safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Electrical Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair power distribution systems, switchgear, MCCs (Motor Control Centers), transformers, generators, and electric motors.
  • Ensure proper function and calibration of PLCs, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and SCADA systems.
  • Monitor and maintain UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and battery backup systems.
  • Conduct megger testing, insulation resistance testing, and circuit troubleshooting.

2. Troubleshooting & Fault Diagnosis

  • Diagnose electrical faults, power failures, and short circuits.
  • Perform voltage, current, and continuity testing using electrical diagnostic tools.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control wiring diagrams.
  • Ensure ex-proof (explosion-proof) equipment and electrical installations meet hazardous area standards.

3. Compliance & Safety

  • Follow and enforce HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) regulations and electrical safety protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, NEC, ATEX, and API standards for electrical installations in hazardous zones.
  • Implement and adhere to LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures to prevent electrical hazards.
  • Participate in safety drills, risk assessments, and permit-to-work (PTW) procedures.

4. Supervision & Training

  • Lead and mentor junior electricians and technicians in best practices and safety compliance.
  • Conduct training sessions on electrical troubleshooting, power distribution, and hazardous area installations.
  • Ensure team members adhere to industry standards and maintenance schedules.

5. Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate with mechanical, instrumentation, and operations teams for maintenance activities.
  • Maintain detailed logs, reports, and documentation of electrical work.
  • Assist in procurement by identifying required spare parts, electrical components, and tools.
