PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
As a member of the Global Maintenance Systems Group, the Maintenance Data Technician is a central resource to support the data requirements for the SAP PM module. For the supported sites/businesses, this individual executes Master Data updates to Functional Locations, Equipment and Preventative Maintenance tasks.
PM Master Data: Execute manual updates to Master Data. Maintain data integrity, and ensure that the data conforms to current standards, policies and procedures. Updates are typically defined by a User, eMOC, Capital Project or new Plant. Timely response and data accuracy is required.
SAP Releases: Support and assist efforts relating to new SAP Releases. Compile and format Plant data, supporting the obligations of the GPMT.
PM Projects: Compile data relating to specific PM projects. This includes plant moves, acquisitions and divestitures.
Process Safety: Performs individual MD updates to Process Safety devices (Relief Valves, Critical Safety Circuits, Mechanical Integrity equipment) in accordance with defined standards and procedures.
MOCs: Utilize the eMOC tool, and execute on-going database updates based on eMOCs. Follow established work processes to assure timely implementation of changes. Make necessary contacts to resolve questions. When necessary, produce a spreadsheet for mass updating (by others).
Plant Equipment: With limited guidance and direction, gather and compile Equipment data for New Plants. Proceed to populate source files, which are ultimately used for mass loads. Perform data validation, and correct any errors or discrepancies. Classify common plant equipment using guides or templates. Consult Lead Technician or functional experts on the proper classification of unique equipment.
Plant PM Programs: Make manual updates to PM Plans and Task Lists (create, change or delete). Uses Standard Text in the creation of PM Tasks.
Data extracts: Utilize standard transactions to extract CMMS data into other formats (Excel), and manipulate for review, PM Task execution or analysis. Basic Excel skills are needed.
User support: Depending on established work processes, this individual performs the PM-related transactions for multiple sites. Example: sites that do not have SAP or 7i access.
Travel: Occasional travel is required.
Continuous Improvement: Make suggestions for system and work process improvements. Report data or functionality gaps that need to be addressed by others.

This position requires a degree of experience in plant maintenance, operations, maintenance systems, engineering or planning. Training or certifications may satisfy the technical requirements. Familiarity with process plant equipment is desired, and the ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment data sheets and maintenance manuals. This individual will classify common Equipment and Systems using templates and guides; SAP Role: This position requires competence in the use of Master Data transactions, and familiarity with data standards for Equipment and PM Tasks. The individual must understand the functionality and steps to manually create, change and delete technical objects, requiring competence in the use of Master Data transactions. For SAP, this is the Level 2 Master Data role, PPJR14. Databases: The incumbent must be skilled in at least 1 CMMS. PC Skills: A high level of computer literacy is needed, including the ability to utilize new tools and methods relating to Master Data. A working knowledge of standard AP systems is required (CMMS, eMOC, STAC). Organizational Skills: Good organizational skills are required. This complements the technical and database skills. Work Processes: Familiarity with Master Data work processes is important.
Most Challenging part of the Job
A challenging aspect is applying CMMS and organizational skills to generate and administer accurate data. This is detailed work and must be done correctly. When doing Master Data changes, the impact of a mistake can affect multiple businesses and regions; critical devices are often involved.
Assignment and Review of Work
Assignments: This individual is expected to schedule and prioritize most of their own work, considering the importance level and schedule. Occasional OT may be needed to keep backlogs down and important initiatives on track. Multitasking is required.
This individual often guides others in the prioritizing and execution of work. If conflicts arise, guidance can be provided by the Supervisor.
Decision-Making
Make decisions pertaining to data collection, interpreting of drawings and files, and proper selection of codes and labels for Master Data. Select proper tools and process mass loads. Validate load results and address errors.
Consider the impact and expected results when doing mass data manipulation, and take steps to assure things are done properly.
Collaborate with others on priorities for MD work, and contribute to decisions pertaining to data, tools and work processes. Establish proper priorities consistent with business and corporate needs.
Contact with Others
In supporting Master Data and Plant activities, this individual routinely interfaces with PM Power Users, Plant personnel, Maintenance Supervisors, Maintenance Technicians and Materials Management. Good interpersonal and coordination skills are required, and the ability to communicate clearly.
This individual must work effectively with Supervisors, Managers and Peers outside the Systems Team, and establish rapport with business contacts.
