Wind Project Engineer
The Wind Project Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager, and Construction Manager for site execution activities. The WPE will be based onsite at Aqaba Windfarm.
Engineering
Review basic and detail Engineering activities for the electrical system in wind power projects.
- Review overall key SLD’s, Auxiliary AC/ DC SLD & protection SLD;
- Review of Detail Engineering - Equipment layout & section, earthing layout design, cable routing / cable tray layout, lighting layout, lightning layout, switchgear fixing arrangement drawing;
- Review electrical designs for wind turbine systems, Design calculations including transformer sizing, Battery and UPS sizing, DG sizing, earthing calculation, cable sizing, cable tray sizing, lighting calculation etc;
- Basic Knowledge of power system study preferred;
- Collaborate with turbine manufacturers to address technical issues and ensure compliance with design standards;
- Review turbine data and performance specifications to ensure compatibility with electrical designs;
- Participate in the layout design of wind turbine clusters for optimal energy generation and minimal electrical losses;
- Provide technical guidance on the installation and commissioning of wind turbine electrical systems, including grid interconnection;
- Should have worked in at least 2-4 large size wind power projects as Project Engineer and 4-6 Large size projects as Lead Project engineer;
- Oversee the integration of electrical systems with wind turbines and ancillary equipment;
- Provide technical support to project team during construction phases, troubleshooting electrical issues as they arise; ensuring that our wind power plants are designed and built to the highest standards of quality and efficiency;
- Ensure that designs comply with local, state, and national electrical codes and regulations;
- Mitigates any engineering & design risks;
- Extends full support to commissioning and project teams and act on any engineering & design defect and forewarn on deficiencies both in the contracts and the ones which cannot be managed through contractual requirements;
- Ensure that safety, quality and reliability aspects are focused and are part of the plant design;
- Supports the Project team in the discussion related to technical issues for which the EPC/OEM contractor either claims variation orders or disagrees;
- coordinate closely with the owner’s engineer and project teams to ensure seamless communication and collaboration;
- Document and communicate issues and resolutions to relevant stakeholders to ensure transparency and continuous improvement;
- Facilitate effective communication between the design, construction, and owner’s engineering teams to streamline processes and enhance project delivery;
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and renewable energy technologies.
Wind Turbine Execution
- Help resolve site-based turbine related topics, with support of engineering;
- Assist with trouble shooting during testing and commissioning phases;
- Support the quality team on technical non-conformities;
- Support the quality process; &
- Resolving quality deviations (de-snagging) to ensure not only a smooth handover to the customer but also a smooth operation over the WT lifetime. To achieve this, all commissioning and finishing activities are to be executed in a safe manner considering the highest standards of safety, quality and efficiency.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is a must;
- Master’s in engineering would be advantageous;
Key Work Experience
- Minimum 7-10 years of engineering and design experience. With experience mainly dealing with wind projects; and Minium 3-5 years in wind turbine technology, installation, and or testing and commissioning perspective would be strongly considered;
- Turbine technology experience across multiple OEM platforms;
- Must have strong EPC experience dealing with wind projects; &
- Extensive experience in handling at least 3 large full cycle wind projects design and engineering.
Key Skills
- Excellent written and spoken English;
- Proficiency in electrical design software and tools;
- Strong analytical and communication skills;
- Proven success in developing and improving engineering processes;
- Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of engineering principles. A broad knowledge of recognized International/local/American and British design codes;
- Great analytical skills with Incredible problem-solving abilities; &
- Effectively work in a collaborative, cross-functional and open culture.
