Job Description:


The Piping Field Engineer will oversee/monitor the activities of the EPC Contractor in planning, installation, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of Piping. The Piping Field Engineer is to confirm that all EPC Contractor Piping work is carried out in accordance with applicable codes and standards within the boundaries of the Project Basis of Design, providing input into construction work packs and test packs as necessary, and providing direction if installation, testing or commissioning issues arise.


Key Result Areas


  • Review of EPC Contractor site installation, testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning documentation to ensure works are to schedule and to desired quality.
  • Provide direction to EPC Contractor about issues regarding site installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start up and shut down.

Job Context General:


  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • Experience in the Project Management Team (PMT) role.
  • Interface with JV Contractor supervision on all aspects of Piping installation.
  • Interface with IPMT departments (quality, planning, engineering and safety).
  • Strong construction safety awareness and proactive approach to safety on site.
  • Issue detailed daily report on JV contractor performance relating to progress, quality, manpower, engineering information, procurement and issues encountered.
  • Understanding of project schedules, construction sequences and constructability. Basic understanding of Primavera schedules including float, critical path, resources, links and logic.

  • General knowledge and experience of construction safety in the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Specific knowledge and experience of safety requirements for Piping activities 
  • Attendance and reporting on weekly safety walkdowns with JV Contractor and Subcontractor.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of international specifications and work practices for Piping installation.
  • Review of engineering drawings, project specifications and manufacturer’s data sheets.
  • Monitoring quality of site work in support of IPMT Quality Inspector. Highlighting defective work to JV Contractor and IPMT QC/SME.
  • Attendance and reporting on weekly quality walkdowns with JV Contractor and Subcontractor.
  • Daily site tours of the site, including locations at height on pipe racks and process structures.
  • Review and commenting on progress quantity statistics issued by JV contractor for payment purposes. 
  • Review and issuing written comments on monthly Primavera schedule updates.
  • Attending pre-walkdowns and walkdowns for System Completion and reporting punch list items as applicable.

Knowledge Skills and Experience


  • Oil and Gas experience
  • Broad knowledge of the practical application of engineering to field installation and constructability.
  • Good level of computer literacy.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications / Beneficial:


  • Experience in PMC role in major project
