Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide personalized coordinated care, support and treatment for patients and families.
Treat people with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Involve patients, families and caregivers by providing them with education and resources for offering optimal support to promote recovery.
Performs Venous and capillary punctures to obtain blood samples for analysis from neonatal, pediatrics and adult patients.
Adheres to policies and procedures, quality assurance program, safety, infection control and environment standards in the performance of specimen collection, processing, receiving and distribution.
Ensure that the standards established by the Joint Commission International, College of American Pathologist are met in all respects within the area of responsibility.
Assist in the orientation and training of new phlebotomist and receptionist staff.
Assure that adequate supplies are available at all times, and maintains inventory of all material used.
Follow an effective written and oral communication system that assures prompt and accurate patient receiving, specimen collection and effective exchange of information with laboratory sections, other hospitals departments and referral laboratory services.
Performs inpatient specimen collection rounds.
Receives collected samples into the laboratory information system after ensuring that all sample and patient data is correct.
Processes collected samples and prepare them for testing.
Distributes processed samples to the appropriate laboratory sections.
Prepares and packages samples sent to referral laboratory.
Provides specimen. Patient preparation and collection information and guidelines to nursing and medical staff.
Maintains a helpful and supportive relationship with peers, hospital staff and patients.
Ensures that all patient contacts are conducted in a calm and professional manner.
Maintains confidentiality of matters relating to patients.
Maintain the chain of command based on established policies and procedures.
Contributes to the safety of patients and staff by being cognizant of potential hazards and reporting concerns or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
Ensures accuracy of specimen collection, specimen receiving, specimen transportation and patient results handling procedures.
Adheres to all quality (control/improvement) policies and procedures.
Clean equipment and working areas as per infection control policies.
Complies and submits periodic activity and statistical reports as required.
Ensures proper function of section instruments, equipment and other assets.
Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job, as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
Records phlebotomy requisitions in logbook.
Identifies the patient – comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient’s identification band before venipuncture is performed.
Displays courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Labels and records all test tubes, logs procedures, files paperwork.
Is knowledgeable about which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed – knows test requirements.
Follows Standard Precautions at all times.
Disposes all sharps in a rigid sharps container.
Cleans and supplies venipuncture trays. Maintains work areas. Order supplies when needed.
Treats patient with compassion and is person centered care.
Instructs and educates patients on the process conducted in the extraction area and the turnaround time of the tests.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS Degree, or Diploma (or equivalent in country of origin) in Medical Technology Phlebotomy.
Must successfully complete the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health requirements for licensure
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE :
Two years in one or more of the laboratory services.
Employment history must be continuous over past Four years.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
Proficient in using Microsoft word, and excel spread sheets.
Works skillfully with the team.

Knowledge in laboratory services
Ability to manage internal and external departmental communications.
