As an Oracle Database Administrator, you'll manage database performance, security, and integrity while ensuring availability and reliability. Monitor and optimize the performance of the database, plan for backup and recovery of the database, allocate system storage, and plan future storage needs. Create database-related scripts and programs to support development and production environments.
Key Accountabilities
- Installing and configuring Oracle E-Business Suite components, including the database, application tier, and web tier.
- Setting up and configuring EBS environments (development, test, production) with proper database and application configurations.
- Applying Oracle EBS patches (critical patches, security patches, and functional patches) using adpatch or Oracle's AutoPatch utilities.
- Managing Oracle EBS version upgrades, ensuring minimal downtime and smooth migration.
- Performing cloning of Oracle EBS environments to create copies of production for testing, development, or backup purposes.
- Managing environment refreshes, ensuring data consistency across different environments (dev, QA, production).
- Managing the Oracle database that supports EBS, including backups, recovery, database tuning, and monitoring.
- Managing the Oracle Concurrent Manager, which schedules and runs concurrent programs (batch jobs, reports, processes) within Oracle EBS.
- Configuring, tuning, and troubleshooting the Concurrent Processing system to ensure efficient use of system resources.
- Monitoring and managing concurrent requests, adjusting parameters like cache size and number of active processes.
- Proactively monitoring Oracle EBS environments using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to detect performance bottlenecks.
- Tuning both the database and application tiers for performance optimization, including SQL query tuning, adjusting memory parameters (SGA, PGA), and optimizing EBS workflow processes.
- Monitoring system components such as the Apache web server, Oracle Forms, and Reports servers for optimal performance.
- Ensuring compliance with security standards by applying security patches and regularly reviewing the security of the database and application layers.
- Implementing high availability solutions for Oracle EBS, such as Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) and Data Guard for failover and replication.
- Diagnosing and resolving technical issues in both the database and application tiers of Oracle EBS.
- Working closely with Oracle EBS developers to ensure that custom applications are properly deployed and functioning correctly within the EBS framework.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in same role.
- Expertise in Oracle database administration (including RAC, ASM, Data Guard).
- In-depth knowledge of Oracle EBS architecture and components.
- Experience with EBS patching, cloning, and upgrades.
- Familiarity with PL/SQL and SQL for database management and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix as most Oracle EBS environments are hosted on these platforms.
- Strong problem-solving skills, especially in diagnosing complex issues across multiple tiers (database, application, and web).
