Job Purpose / Objective
Supervise, coordinate and organize all nursing related functions/ activities for the specific assigned shift which include clinical and administrative tasks with focus on providing and delivering high quality of patient care based on JCIA/ CBAHI and other accreditation standards. Supervisor role is balanced between patient care/ needs and monitoring the nursing department performance during a specific shift as to promote continuing professional development of staff and ensure the provision of the best quality patient care within the available resources.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Ensure the efficiency of departments’ operational activities by being involved, available and reachable.
- Conduct physical round (clinical and non-clinical) to all departments/ units to:
- Review the staffing status and ensure adequate coverage.
- Gather patient census.
- Check and inspect appropriateness of the department including medication rooms, stores and utility rooms.
- Support and inspire the staff on duty and be role model / reference.
- Identify and notice any unusual behavior/ observation and act accordingly.
- Visit the department as needed whenever:
- Staff call for help/ clarification and additional resources
- Patient complaint
- New admission
- Incident occurrence
- Monitor staff performance/ practice and refers any observation to Nursing Manager/ Head Nurse in constructive manner for improvement purposes.
- Complete Nursing Supervisor round checklist accurately and on time (appendix 1 & 2).
- Attend and sort out all patient concerns / complaints to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Serve as Liaison between doctors/ other department staff and Team Leader as needed.
- Reallocate and reassign staff to ensure adequate staff are available to delivering the expected Nursing care.
- Work collaboratively in multidisciplinary approach to ensure continuity of care.
- Monitor absenteeism and delays, report it appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality in handling patient and staff related issues.
- Provide patient and family education as needed.
- Administer medication as per doctor order and as needed.
- Respond to code blue and other codes.
- Participate in shift endorsement/ hand over as needed.
- Act as staff and patient advocate.
- Participate in education/ orientation nursing activities.
- Participate in performance appraisal for the staff.
- Precept in new appointed supervisor.
- Participate in any accreditation/ reaccreditation process.
- Visit critically ill and new admission patients.
- Coordinate and arrange any equipment/ supply transfer, borrowing and return back with other HMG project.
- Arrange pull-out within and out the project.
- Prepare shift report and any other required report.
- Attend the Nursing administration meetings and represent Nursing in certain committee as delegated by Director of Nursing.
- Comply with the standards and perform duties necessary to support, achieve and maintain national and international accreditation.
- Maintain excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
- Undertake responsibilities as Head of department/ unit and Director of Nursing in their absence, as and when required.
- Perform any delegated tasks/ duties assigned by Director of Nursing within realm of knowledge, skills and abilities.
Education/ Professional Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- Nursing
Experience
- 10-years experience in general hospital.
- 5 years in senior nursing position not lower than Charge Nurse
