Job Purpose / Objective :
Compounds and dispenses sterile medication preparations, and maintain IV Room procedures to be in accordance with internationally accepted standards and established pharmacy IV room policy.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities :
- Perform professional work in the compounding and dispensing of sterile medication preparations in I.V. room.
- Review and interprets physician’s drug order of IV medications for clarity, rational, dosage form, allergies, interactions, incompatibility, etc.
- Answer physician’s inquiries regarding IV drugs.
- Maintain control and security of all drugs, instruments, and consumables inside IV Room.
- Work extensively with accrediting bodies such as CBAHI and JCIA to obtain and maintain accreditations.
- Follow all safety and USP related guidelines, including chapters 797& 800 for preparation of compounded medications.
- Maintains availability and plan procurement for all resources and consumables needed to keep service continuous while meet established IV Room pharmacy standards.
- Maintain order for procedures that control receiving drug order, processing, preparing, labeling, double checking, and sending to nurse station timely.
- Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of TPN and I.V. admixture including chemotherapeutic agents (when applicable).
- Provides drug information and assists in instructing nursing and medical staff, pharmacy technicians and students for all drug preparation and stability related issues.
- Performs inspection of nursing units’ drug preparation areas, discusses service problems with head nurses and recommends solutions to pharmacy supervisor.
- Overseas ways to develop quality of service by suggesting new instruments & procedures while keeping up to date with advanced IV preparing technology, and discuss implementation with Pharmacy supervisor.
- When assigned by pharmacy/compounding supervisor, act as Pharmacy Infection Control Officer that participate and report issues regularly to hospital infection control committee.
- Train pharmacists and technicians on proper aseptic techniques.
- Follows all hospital related policies and procedures.
- Provide patient and family education as per needs.
- Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
- Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
- Perform other applicable task and duties assigned within the realm of his knowledge, skill and abilities.
Education/ Professional Qualification:
- Graduated from accredited College of pharmacy with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree of Pharmacy.
Experience:
- At least 5 years work experience in IV Room/Clean room.
Professional Licensing / Certification / Training:
- Certification: Must be licensable by Ministry of Health.
- Licensing: Must hold a valid Saudi Council License
