Job Description

Job Purpose / Objective  Responsible for the activities of the Infection Control Team and infection surveillance, analysis and reporting and the accordant development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection prevention and control standards within the hospital in compliance with CDC and international accreditation requirements. Conduct training in both universal and specific infection control practices, supervise learning, and assist staff to integrate theory to practice. Participate in the clinical and administrative coordination of health care services within the hospital for effective management of manpower and physical resources for the institution.Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities   Oversee and coordinate all activities related to Infection Control in the institution and implement, upon appropriate coordination, of all Infection Control Programs for the hospital in accordance to the established standards of the hospital and accreditation requirements.Participate in the planning, development and implementation of In-Service Education programs directly related to the new employee Orientation Programs.Ensure the establishment and maintenance of standards for Infection Control on a hospital wide basis.Prepare, review and evaluate all procedures and policies related to Infection Control and provides necessary clarification for Unit Heads, other departmental managers and professional staff.Support and upholds the objectives and goals of the Infection Control Committee and collaborate with the Infection Control Committee members and their designated Unit members.Collaborate with appropriate administrative, medical and non-medical staff to upkeep patient care standards that relate to Infection Control.Initiate and participate in programs and related projects of the institution which upholds and augments the mission of Infection Control.Prepare and submit complete periodical Infection Control reports and compliance updates of the staffs in the institution.Review the quality and maintenance of environmental cleanliness on a regular basis and reports related concerns accordingly for the appropriate action required of the concerned department head.Investigate all the significant outbreaks and identify the source of infection in any hospital unit. Consult/collaborate with the Infection Control Team, the Medical Director, the InfectiousDisease physician and the Infection Control Committee for the defined action and prevention of further spread of infection.Mandate compliance with the standards set by the CDC and the national & international accreditation committees, to achieve/maintain qualification.Report any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the hospital or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations which place patient, staff or visitors at risk of injury or other harm.Conduct daily rounds in all hospital units to discuss, monitor and track infection control practices with staff.Review data on hospital-associated infections from all hospital departments and maintain records for each case. Prevention maintenance should be conducted in coordination with the Infection Control Committee members.Conduct and review continuous surveillance to detect the source of infection for prevention purposes. Follow and investigate the incidences of hospital-associated infections, generates reports and forwards copy of all reports to the chairperson of Infection Control Committee and Director of Nursing.Monitor implementation of preventive infection control measures, provide guidance to staff and counsels as necessary.Collaborate with CSSD staff in all matters related to sterilization, unit facility management and all related infection control practices. Collaborate with housekeeping with regards to proper waste disposal and management.Collaborate with the Facility and Safety Officer for any scheduled construction and re-construction of the units within the hospital to ensure compliance with the infection control standards.Oversee the available resources, space, staff and equipment, in a way that demonstrate good planning, careful economy and value for money.Respond to problems, conflicts and complaints in a timely, logical, analytical and knowledgeable manner observing established policies and procedures and cultural norms and utilizing where appropriate the expertise, experience and wisdom of peers, senior colleagues and Heads of Department to find solutions.Maintain confidentiality of patient and personnel data at all times and report any occurrences not consistent with the operation of the hospital or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations that put patients, staff or visitors at risk for injury or other harm.Review performance of staff and perform counselling on unsatisfactory performance. In addition, discuss personnel and administrative issues and address and solve problems among staff.Participate in, and lead person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.Perform other applicable task and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.Education/ Professional QualificationBachelor’s degree in nursingExperience Minimum of Five (5) years of experience. Preferably have work experience in the Middle East.Professional Licensing / Certification / Training BLS, Epidemiology, Infection control, or relevant certifications.Saudi Council & Licensed from Country of Origin.
