Job Description

Job Purpose / Objective


Responsible to ensure that recognized safe practices are followed for all operations involving hazardous materials/ waste and perform related duties as required within the premises of the HMG hospital according to National and international standards.


Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities


  • Prepare, interpret and implement policies, regulations, procedures and programs and protocols relevant to hazardous materials.
  • Evaluate the work of subordinate professional and support staff; accompanies staff in field inspections to ensure uniformity and completeness.
  • Prepare and conduct training sessions for staff.
  • Perform the more complex or sensitive investigations or studies involving emergency hazardous material control laws, regulations, and technologies.
  • Prepare project reports, records, statistics and correspondence.
  • Provide education and training on all the concern approved plans, policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.
  • Attend all concern meetings and rounds of the hospital on a periodic basis.
  • Report any violation of environmental protection policies and procedures through Occurrence Variance Reporting.
  • Maintain the central inventory of all HAZMAT used within the facility.
  • Participate in the decision making of introducing any new HAZMAT for the facility.
  • Maintain MSDS for all hazardous materials used in the facility.
  • Perform monthly inventory of all hazardous materials as per national and international healthcare standards.
  • Respond to Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste spills and releases.
  • Arrange for disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with national, international regulations and all other applicable approved policies.
  • Post appropriate signs to warn facility users of potential hazards; Inform facility users about removal or encapsulation projects.
  • Keeps all the required record of work performed, such as hazardous material removal.
  • Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
  • Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
  • Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his knowledge, skills and abilities.

Education/ Professional Qualification


  • Science Graduate from an Institution or University recognized in the country of origin with certifications in Hazardous Safety. Or equivalent combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.

Experience


  • Three years of relevant professional experience; preferably in hazardous waste management, industrial hygiene, toxicology or epidemiology
