Job Description
Job Summary: The GIS Team is responsible for managing and leveraging geographic data to support various departments and projects within the organization. This team plays a crucial role in spatial analysis, mapping, data visualization, and providing geospatial intelligence to inform decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Geospatial Data Management:
- Acquire, collect, organize, and maintain geographic data sets and databases.
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency through data validation and quality assurance processes.
- Spatial Analysis and Mapping:
- Perform spatial analysis to derive insights and trends from geographic data.
- Create maps, charts, and visualizations using GIS software and tools to support planning, operations, and decision-making.
- Project Support:
- Collaborate with various departments and project teams to integrate geographic information into project workflows.
- Provide geospatial support and expertise to address project-specific requirements and challenges.
- Data Integration and Interoperability:
- Integrate GIS data with other enterprise systems and data sources to facilitate data sharing and interoperability.
- Ensure compatibility and alignment of GIS data formats and standards with organizational requirements.
- GIS Software and Technology Management:
- Manage GIS software licenses, tools, and infrastructure to support operational needs.
- Stay updated on emerging GIS technologies, trends, and best practices to enhance team capabilities and efficiency.
- Training and Knowledge Sharing:
- Provide training and technical support to internal stakeholders on GIS tools, applications, and workflows.
- Promote GIS awareness and knowledge sharing across the organization to foster a culture of spatial data literacy.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Implement and adhere to GIS data management protocols, standards, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and data security protocols related to geospatial data handling.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation on GIS analysis, findings, and recommendations.
- Maintain documentation of GIS processes, methodologies, and data sources for transparency and reproducibility.
Skills
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in GIS data management, spatial analysis, and mapping using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in database management and data manipulation techniques.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with geospatial data standards, coordinate systems, and metadata management.
- Certification in GIS or related field (e.g., GISP) may be advantageous.
