Job Description

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES : - Performs all management functions and duties of a general surgeon and provides expert medical care for ambulatory and hospitalized patients, including pre- and post-operative cases and such surgical procedures as are within incumbent’s competence. - Provides consultation services to physicians and other surgeons and specialists. -Assumes after-hours responsibilities for the care of assigned surgical cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized. - Orders diagnostic laboratory studies and X-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing applicable therapy. - Adheres to the By-laws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Department and assures that work performed is in keeping with the established standards of the Joint Commission or Accreditation of Hospitals. - Consults with anesthesiologists on the choice of anesthesia to be used. - Participates in and contributes to in-service activities such as lectures, conferences and rounds.- Participates in the monthly staff meetings of the Surgical Services Division. - Participates in the Performance Improvement activities of the Service (morbidity and mortality reviews, peer review activities etc). - Participates in hospital committee functions as assigned. - Supervises the work of ward physicians, professional development physicians, interns and provides his evaluation to the Chief of Service. - Performs other miscellaneous related duties as required by the Chief of the Service. - To treat patient with compassion and to be person centered care. - Provides education to the patient and family regarding their diagnosis, treatment options, and alternatives and other. - Sharing in patient education. - Provide personalized coordinated care, support and treatment for patients and families. - Treat people with dignity, compassion, and respect. - Involving patients in decisions and helping them take actions to support themselves.- Involve patients, families and caregivers by providing them with education and resources for offering optimal support to promote recovery. - Dedicated to education of health professions students, residents and Fellow physicians so they can work together in multidisciplinary teams to provide competent, ethical and continuous person-centered care. QUALIFICATIONS : - Graduation from an approved medical school MD with a board degree. -State board of general surgery certification or equivalent. - Must hold a valid license to practice medicine. - 4 years of residency, a valid license to practice.
