Role Summary:


As General Manager, Operations, you will hold a critical role in facilitating efficient operations and Operations coordination within the division, including, and not limited to, strategic planning, operational setup, procurement, contracting, profit and loss management, strategic alliances within the business and external stakeholders. You will work closely with various projects to ensure seamless execution of operations and contribute to the overall success of DSV.


Responsibilities:


Operations:
•    Full accountability and leadership on all aspects of the operations
•    Accountable for all initiatives being implemented across these operations
•    Collaborate with the teams to understand project goals, operational requirements, and unique challenges.
•    Remain the key liaison between the operations teams and projects.
•    Develop and execute strategic plans for operations, aligning with the overall Program objectives and project-specific goals.
•    Work closely with Fleet Management department to develop asset investment and fleet deployment strategies
•    Compliance of sites to DSV standards:


  • SHERQ – achieve minimum requirements
  • Implement and maintain Quality Management System at all sites

•    Unlock synergies within operations to improve competitiveness of solutions
•    Establish effective operational processes, workflows, and procedures to support operational execution.


Client Relationships: 
•    Ensuring client’s needs and expectations are consistently met within scope of the SLA.
•    Client interaction and issue resolution to ensure client satisfaction
Commercial / Financial:
•    Thorough understanding and application of contract and service level agreement to achieve account stability and profitability
•    Ensure accurate and timeous monthly invoicing and on time payment by client (debtors days)
•    Monitor budgets, expenses, and financial performance to ensure adherence to financial targets.
•    Create month end P&L reporting displaying monthly business overview
•    Responsible for GL and Accounting queries.
•    Claims resolution, investigate and understand claim details per incident, report internally and negotiate and process compensation when valid
Operational Performance: 
•    Actively managing daily operational performance to consistently achieve performance metric targets 
•    Delivering on client and internal CIP requirements and driving lean culture
•    Manage and negotiate contracts where required, vendor relationships, and supplier agreements to secure favorable terms.
•    Internal stakeholder communication management, ensure agreed to meetings, conference calls and forums are planned and conducted internal as agreed to by all stakeholders, this is an ongoing requirement.
•    Customer dissatisfaction process, analyze failures with regards to deliveries, client complaints, damages etc to determine root cause and corrective actions.
•    Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely and efficient procurement of required resources and  equipment.
•    Identify potential risks and challenges within project operations and develop mitigation strategies. 


People Management: 
•    Firm and consistent approach to ongoing performance measurement and management of team 
•    Resolution of all IR issues in conjunction with HRM
•    Coaching and mentoring of team to achieve client objectives.
•    IDP and succession plans in place 
•    Drive training interventions to close skills gaps in operations
Projects Expectations:
•    Monthly KPI dashboard consolidation and reporting, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation and tracking 


Educational Qualifications & Work Experience


  • At least 20 years’ experience in the logistics industry.
  • At least 10 years in a management role, with experience in engaging with project leadership.
  • Strong understanding of Operations and project management principles, operational planning, Team management, budgeting and procurement strategies.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and drive cross-functional teams.
  • Fleet management experience – operating own assets
  • Strategic thinker with a problem-solving mindset and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Advance Microsoft office suite, powerpoint, excel, access etc skills.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in contract negotiation, vendor management, and financial analysis.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and maturity to manage multiple levels of stakeholders expectations within the clients environment
  • Initiative to act proactively in an ever changing client environment
  • Assertiveness, clients changing needs/demands must be managed firmly and tactfully
  • High degree of common sense to understand implications of actions as well as failure to act, and enough initiative to act proactively when required
  • Extensive stock control, process adherence and warehousing skills & experience; “
  • QMS, SHE and Continual Improvement Processes and Risk Management skills and experience
