Job Description

The Africa Middle East & Turkey (AMET) Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) Field Operations team is seeking a driven Environment Manager - KSA (EM) to help drive environmental compliance and operational excellence in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment across multiple facilities within Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) Operations.
This role will be based at an operational location in Jeddah and will report through the Amazon Worldwide Environmental Assurance and Protection Field Operations team. MSEM will be joining a team of environmental professionals focused on making a difference. The EM will be responsible for collaborating with site’s operations leadership teams and support functions such as Operations, Facilities and Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) to execute Amazon Global Environmental Standards and Programs, and ensure compliance with all applicable National and Local regulations. The successful candidate will support, take direction, and functionally report to Regional Environmental Managers (REMs) to rollout environmental programs, assist with internal audit protocols, create site based environmental compliance processes and support change initiatives across the KSA sites. By focusing on standards & procedures, risk assessments and compliance evaluations, this individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives to minimize environmental aspects and impacts and communicate & implement best practices across KSA sites.
The MSEM will be responsible for providing environmental compliance support to multiple Amazon Fulfillment Centers (FCs), Sorting Centers (SCs), and Logistics (AMZL) sites located in the metropolitan and regional areas of KSA. The MSEM is expected to regularly visit assigned sites in their country to ensure on-going site presence. Regular travel (75%) will be a required as part of this role to drive strong partnerships and engagements with our sites and internal stakeholders.
The ideal candidate must be able to work successfully in a fast-paced environment, be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. They must possess strong understanding of environmental programs and regulatory knowledge and act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), and demonstrate this expertise when partnering with other teams throughout the operations.
Organizationally, this position will report to the MENA Environmental Leader, however it will support, take direction, and functionally report to Regional Environmental Managers (REMs).
Key job responsibilities
This is a hands-on position that will require the successful candidate to:
• Develop site based standard operating procedures and programs as per the regulatory and Amazon environmental standards and provide guidance as an environment SME to operations and construction teams.
• Lead environmental procedure and programs’ implementation at a site-level. Implement Amazon Geo-Specific Operational Environmental Procedures by integrating with engineering, construction and operations. Manage and ensure site’s conformance with Amazon Global Environmental Standards and Programs.
• Manage and execute multi-site responsibilities to comply with air emissions, stormwater, waste, wastewater, and other environmental related laws, regulations and permits, which includes National, and Local reporting (as needed).
• Manage the existing sites and new launches Environmental permitting process including documentation preparation, managing the consultant, follow up on the submitted applications, and manage the implementation of all requirements in the received permit.
• Monitor and provide guidance on site’s performance against applicable environmental regulations, procedures and programs. Analyze environmental metrics and review weekly and monthly trends to determine where improvements are needed.
• Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under environmental procedures and programs to ensure environmental compliance and achieve continual improvement across the network. Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required environmental training.
• Have good knowledge of National and Local Environmental regulations, and demonstrated success in implementing complex and technical programs to meet regulatory and organizational requirements. Lead regulatory agency interactions (be the primary contact for environmental regulatory agencies) and permit support.
• Interact with multiple departments and all levels of employees throughout the operation, with varying levels of technical Environmental knowledge. Develop long term environmental programs by integrating with engineering, construction, and operations.
• Work with internal and external partners, inclusive of government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, operations and other key stakeholders.
• Lead and technically manage site-based Environmental Champions and Waste Coordinators, in the environmental procedure and programs’ implementation at a site-level. Along with developing these employees to be environmental leaders in the MENA network.
• Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with regulatory requirements and Amazon standards. Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization.
• Measure and analyze site performance and review trends to determine where improvements are needed and engage with site-based stakeholders to improve site’s environmental performance. Assist sites with action plan development for any deficiencies noted from trends, audits and inspections
• Conduct thorough and accurate environmental inspections and audits for continuous improvement.
• Demonstrate strong communication and engagement skills to assist in the conducting inspections and audits.
• Prioritize and manage multiple, technically complex assignments, concurrently.
• Build and manage collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately.
• Compile and submit time critical reports to various governmental agencies.
• Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory and internal reports, and develop appropriate corrective actions plan.
• Ensure equipment that requires environmental preventative maintenance (PM) is appropriately logged and tracked
• Evaluate and develop process improvements for identified risks. Show initiative to identify and implement corrective actions to eliminate any observed non-compliance or potential non-compliance situations
• Facilitate root cause analyses for all environmental incidents and recommend appropriate corrective actions for network implementation
- 4+ years of compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk or equivalent experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Experience handling confidential information
- 3+ years of program requirements definition and data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements experience
- Professional auditing qualification, or similar risk or compliance credentials
- Experience with SQL and Excel
