Job Purpose
Manage the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects, from initial planning through to completion. Responsible for cost estimation, budgeting, procurement, contract management, and ensuring that the project is completed within its financial constraints.
Key Accountability Areas
Cost Estimation:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, and overheads.
- Conduct feasibility studies to assess project financial viability.
- Analyze project drawings and specs for accurate cost forecasts.
Budget Management:
- Monitor project budgets to ensure costs stay within the allocated budget.
- Track and report the financial status regularly.
- Suggest cost-saving measures and identify inefficiencies.
Contract Administration:
- Prepare and review contracts and subcontracts.
- Ensure compliance with terms and conditions.
- Manage contract variations and advise on contractual obligations.
Procurement:
- Oversee procurement of materials, labor, and subcontractors.
- Evaluate suppliers for value and quality.
- Ensure procurement aligns with project timelines and budgets.
Measurement and Valuation:
- Measure completed work and generate interim valuations.
- Conduct site visits to verify work progress and quality.
- Keep accurate documentation of completed work.
Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate potential financial risks.
- Monitor and address risks throughout the project.
- Ensure adherence to legal, safety, and environmental regulations.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Provide regular financial reports to clients and management.
- Maintain organized records of contracts, invoices, and payments.
- Prepare final project accounts and reports.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients.
- Address cost or contract-related issues within the team.
- Resolve disputes and ensure project alignment.
Value Engineering:
- Assess cost-effectiveness of design alternatives.
- Recommend cost-efficient improvements without compromising quality.
Cost Control:
- Develop strategies for controlling construction costs.
- Adjust estimates as project scope or schedule changes.
