Job Description Design Support Manager O&AT - 00124879 JOB PURPOSE The Design Support Manager is a high-profile role responsible for providing in Kingdom Design support to the KSA Hawk aircraft and the wider H & AT technical support and engineering, associated with future Saudi British Defence Cooperation Programme (SBDCP) fleet Support programme during SFA2022 and beyond supporting KSA Vision 2030. This programme is of strategic business importance and critical to ensuring BAE Systems Saudi Arabia secures future orders and satisfy demanding national objectives. The job holder shall be qualified to hold DoA to provide aircraft Design Support for various processes and systems. Therefore, they must be a current holder or be competent to hold a level of DoA within Aircraft Design Organisation. to provide support on Technical Queries (TQs), issue Tech instructions, test procedures, modifications, approved data, etc. on aircraft major systems.
The job holder will have a leading role to contribute to activities involving growing of the Engineering Support team and establishing and maintaining a KSA Design capability. These include generating the JDs, business cases, interviewing/ recruiting of employees, selecting, training and development. The job holder will provide support and engineering advice to the wider engineering and technical team across H & AT platforms when relevant and support opportunities to enhance the in-service support across the programme. The job holder will ensure that all aspects of the modifications and clearance aspects falling within their DoA are fully defined to ensure customer requirements are achieved in accordance with all business and commercial criteria, as well as company’s engineering policies and procedures. The job holder will provide technical solutions adopting effective approaches such as LEAN methodology to identify and implement process improvements to drive time and cost reductions while maintaining the required quality standards. The job holder shall have the ability to think critically (out of the box) when solving complex and novel problems. The job holder shall have a high skill of interpersonal communication, with ability to explain to technical and non-technical people in a clear manner. The job holder should acquire a good level of the following requirements: Tech experience in System design, modification and qualification in the Hawk aircraft. Prefer experience in multiple systems on aircraft such as Flight systems, Fuel, ECS, Electrical Generation Systems, and airframe. Preferred to have international experience working with global customers. The job holder will have to be competent to provide technical advice, assisting, and recommendations to fellow engineers, continuing airworthiness, and maintenance organisation. The job holder will be responsible to lead the interfaces and discussions with DO for design related issues/requirements of the H & AT platform, liaise with all relevant functions/stakeholders in and outside KSA. Provide support to Quality/MDR investigations as necessary. Provide support for generation, verification and validation of Technical Publications. Support defining, implementing, and maintaining IT Systems required to provide in-kingdom effective Design/Technical support. The role requires the job holder to provide mentoring and coaching to other team members from engineering, technical, and maintenance teams. Hence, the job holder should have successful experience in providing effective training and development to others engineers/technical members. High level of interpersonal and intercultural communication and Customer interfaces on technical matters. The role will focus on leading and driving the end-to-end technical solutions’ development from feasibility assessment and capability development, while ensuring the appropriate levels of engineering and manufacturing governance and assurance are applied throughout in correlation with relevant supporting functions. Additionally, this role will provide technical support to the expansion and improvement of existing in-Kingdom in service support capabilities. Develop innovative technical solutions in support of new initiatives. Operating within a high-paced contracting environment necessitates a high degree of flexibility in order to meet demanding delivery schedules. The ability to rapidly innovate indigenous technical solutions without comprising compliance or performance will be a key feature of this role. This operating model will require high interpersonal communication to ensure the buy-in and support from all relevant stakeholders. Located in Riyadh but will involve frequent in-Kingdom travel to operating bases outside Riyadh from time to time. It may also require annual trips to UK to ensure appropriate Design Organisations engagement. Reporting will be to both Programme Engineering and Contract Status Reviews. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Key responsibility is to provide development, coaching, support and delegations to the Saudi engineers who reports directly or in-directly to the role holder. Effective interpersonal communication with internal/external stakeholder management skills at different management hierarchy are essential for this role. The successful individual for this position must possess a high level of understanding of product design and practical experience of the application of toolsets and process improvement. The job holder should master skills of operating within complex environment. The job holder shall ensure compliance with BAES engineering and safety policy, and any relevant industry standards. Preferred to have a relevant Engineering or manufacturing accreditation from a recognised accreditation body. Must be able to obtain Engineer Status within the Saudi Council of Engineers Be educated to Honours Degree level. Extensive aerospace and defence company/industry knowledge, working in the Aircraft defence industry with extensive proven experience in Aircraft Design environment. The Job Holder is required to be proven communicator and be able to demonstrate a minimum level of English language capability (IELTS 6) or equivalent – if English is not the first language- across comprehension, written and verbal aspects. Practical experience in operating in a highly regulated and highly scrutinized area that has a significant impact on organisation’s reputation. Proven business acumen for objective decision-making regarding resources, risk management, and engineering forward strategy Understanding and general knowledge of Quality requirements (EN9110/AS9100 based) Have an understanding and knowledge of aircraft standards and regulations. Have a robust working knowledge of the design, qualification, assurance and supporting processes for aircraft and aircraft equipment. Ideally have domain knowledge of RSAF and RAF operating procedures.
