Job Description

Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Design Director who will be responsible for managing the design process and the Architect/Engineer from master planning/basis of design stage through issuance of construction drawings. The ideal candidate will be able to manage a very fast, diverse, and rapidly changing design program.


It is expected that the Design Director will have the gravitas to successfully influence at all levels across both internal and external stakeholders.


Key responsibilities


  • Responsible for establishing and owning the Design Management Plan.
  • Lead design management for Civil, Structural, Architectural, MEP and process engineering, construction manager, Client operation, security, and workplace strategy requirements.
  • Lead and programming meetings between Architectural/Engineering (A/E) firm, stakeholders, steering committee, change management and workplace strategy. 
  • Lead design process with A/E firm under the limited supervision and direction of Design Director.
  • Provide input on alignment between design deliverables and Client requirements. 
  • Lead design reviews and consolidate input from stakeholders and provide design feedback to A/E firm.
  • Perform an all-discipline review for alignment between the different packages.
  • Lead client stakeholder engagements with Client Planning, Workplace Strategy, Change Management, and coordinate design reviews with Client Stakeholders.
  • Lead / participate in design review meetings with third party technical review team and report / distribute findings with resolution of conflicts.
  • Confirm scope boundaries has been included into the different design packages.
  • Identify and / or capture design issues and track until resolved.
  • Confirm all resolved design issues have been incorporated into the design packages.
  • Ensure, as far as reasonably practicable A/E firm understands the design deliverables and pre-review design documents for compliance to deliverables prior to submission.
  • In-charge of the submittal / shop drawing review and approval process.
  • Review of project submittals for compliance with project design documents and coordinate submittal approval from subject matter experts, operations, and team.
  • Coordinate the design RFI's and design changes and liaise with the construction management team.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 15 - 20 years' experience in design management.
  • Working in the Middle East region is advantages.
  • Real Estate, Infrastructure and Major Programmes experience.
  • Written and spoken Arabic language skills are advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or a relevant field.
  • Recognized Project Management qualifications.
