SPSP has been established to meet the needs of the petroleum services industry and to support the Saudization process in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was founded by the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, Saudi Arabian Chevron, Saudi Aramco and Aramco Gulf Operations. The petroleum services industry consists of a number of contracting companies that service the oil exploration, drilling and production facilities in oil fields throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These contractors work with the major oil companies, such as Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabian Chevron, AGOC, etc. in exploring new fields, developing others, and utilizing the latest technology to extract oil and gas from the most difficult strata. A number of leading Saudi and international petroleum service contractors also support SPSP, and many are represented in the SPSP Board of Trustees. SPSP also has the full support of the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF). This collaboration has resulted in the development of a number of industry-specific programs that will run exclusively at SPSP and will provide well trained professionals who will be competent to fill basic technical jobs in the Petroleum Services Industry.
