Duties and Responsibilities :Background: Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Communications Officer, the intern will provide full support for the communications activities of the RCO, committing to confidentiality in all aspects of assignments, maintenance of protocol procedures, and management of information flow by assisting in follow-up on deadlines and commitments made. The Communications Assistant works with the RCO Communications and Advocacy Officer to support the formulation and implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies to increase the standing and awareness of UN in country with partners, the media and the public. The Communications Assistant will support RCO to ensure effective implementation of communications strategies, media relations and organizational outreach efforts. The Communications Assistant promotes a client-oriented approach in RCO. Central to this function will be the provision of communications support to the administration of the Communications Group (UNCG), including through the management of the UNCT website, curation of social media posts and drafting and / or editing of communications materials to support advocacy activities in its efforts to increase the UN’s visibility and affect perceptions as well as Agenda 2030-SDGs at the national level. Duties and Responsibilities: • Social Media Management and Media Monitoring activities • Support in content creation for external digital platforms (Website, Social Media, Campaigns, Newsletter..) • Support in executing events such as (UN Day, UN International Days..) • Ensuring Communication Group meetings are effectively organized and minuted. • Support in coordination activities of the Communication Group; Preparing monthly content calendar, reports, and other documents. • Brainstorm with the UN Communications Group and create designs inspired by style guides. • Liaise with vendors to ensure UN branding requirements are met and the execution of items meet the standards • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills :To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above); 2. Applicants must: (a) be computer literate in standard software applications. (b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and (c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Knowledge of writing articles and press releases is required. Knowledge in Adobe design software or others such as Canva is required. Knowledge in Video production is desirable.
Languages :English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
