AFG College with the University of Aberdeen is an established and exciting higher education partnership forged in 2017. The partnership has created the first UK University in the State of Qatar offering mainstream degrees outside of Qatar Foundation. We celebrated our first cohort of graduates in 2019 and have seen significant growth in student numbers. Currently, there are over 600 students studying at our Qatar campus. To accommodate the growth in our student numbers, plans are underway to build a new larger campus to be opened in 2026. This new campus will allow for further expansion in student numbers, degree offerings, and research. These are particularly exciting times for both the College and the University and the wider higher education sector in Qatar.
Position purpose:
AFG College with the University of Aberdeen is seeking to appoint sessional tutors (across the subject areas identified above) to join the wider academic team to teach across our portfolio of programmes. The role will involve leading and delivering high learning, teaching, and assessment while providing an excellent student experience.
Successful applicants will normally have experience of teaching within a higher education setting. Relevant industry experience is highly desirable to support the delivery of employability and skills-led experiential learning. We are seeking suitably qualified individuals who are student-focused, who can demonstrate excellent interpersonal and analytical skills and can work flexibly.
• You will work with AFG College with University of Aberdeen Programme Leader/s and appointed University Course Leader to develop and produce teaching, learning, and assessment materials and their delivery, for a course or a range of courses.
• You will have responsibility for the assurance of the University’s academic standards within the course(s).
• You will develop and deliver an outstanding student experience across the course(s).
Position accountabilities:

Learning, Teaching & Assessment
• To be responsible for the development, enhancement, preparation, and delivery of teaching, learning, assessment, and feedback across a course(s), including, where appropriate, student projects, placements, and field trips.
• To be responsible for the development and implementation of innovative practice in teaching, learning, assessment, and feedback across the course(s).
• To ensure that teaching on the course(s) is informed by contemporary research and scholarship.
• In collaboration with the appointed University Course Leader, set, mark, and moderate coursework, assignments, and examinations.
• To undertake teaching duties consistent with your areas of expertise and appropriate to the requirements of the programme(s).
Student Experience and Support
• To contribute to an outstanding student experience in line with the University of Aberdeen’s and AFG College strategies, including recruitment activities, induction, disability and learning support, and careers and employability initiatives.
• To contribute to initiatives to enhance student retention, attainment, and satisfaction.
• To attend College and University functions which contribute to the development of relationships between current students, prospective students and their sponsors, internal and external stakeholders, and other organisations as and when required.
Quality Assurance and Enhancement
• In collaboration with the Programme Leader and other university quality staff, ensure that academic quality assurance standards are met and applied consistently across the course(s).
• To contribute to initiatives designed to improve quality assurance and enhancement processes, procedures, and systems across the course(s).
• To ensure that course specifications, Schemes of Work (lesson plans), and My Aberdeen site and any other student learning platform are accurate and up-to-date.
• To ensure that Course Reports are comprehensive and submitted in a timely fashion.
• To contribute to professional body accreditation, validation, revalidation, and review where appropriate.
• To reflect critically on your own practice and to identify, adapt and share good practice across the team, thereby improving quality.
• To ensure, in liaison with relevant colleagues, that related administration duties, including admissions, timetabling, student attendance monitoring, liaison with External Examiners, examinations, and exam boards are delivered effectively across the course(s).
• To ensure, in liaison with relevant colleagues, that student records, including entry profiles, attendance, support needs, achievement, and progression, are current and accurate.
• To ensure that course retention, attainment, attendance, and satisfaction data is used effectively to develop and implement strategies to enhance student outcomes.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
Education and Qualifications
• A good Honours Degree in a relevant subject.
• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, or, an equivalent professional qualification (if from a professional practice background).
Advantageous
• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject, or equivalent professional qualification or experience.
• PhD or working towards a PhD.
• Recognised HE teaching qualification and/or HEA Fellowship.
• Active membership of a professional body.
Experience:

• HE teaching experience, sufficient to have gained knowledge and understanding of the requirements of teaching at this level.
• OR evidence of high-quality presentation skills, and coaching or mentoring of professional, if from a professional practice background.
• Relevant subject, industry and/or professional practice expertise.
• Knowledge and understanding of the UK HE landscape and its challenges.
• Postgraduate HE teaching experience.
• Evidence of contributing to successful initiatives that enhance the student experience and outcomes e.g. retention, attainment, satisfaction, support, or employability.
